How long is your adjustment period in your relationship?

I put a relationship in two categories the giver and the taker. The giver is the ine who makes the best and shortest adjustment and the taker is the type who is the I me type of person only about self.

My self I am a giver and my other half is a member of the taker group. So it didn't take long for me to adjust but after this long period of time (over twenty years) she still has the tendency to revert back to a taker and then I have make some suggestions in a nice way to whats happening.

Well I firmly believe that adjustment is ongoing in any good relationship, and that is what makes it strong enough. As every relationship will go through many different difficulties and life altering situations, that re-define both partners and who they are as individuals, causing an unavoidable period of re-adjustment. I think that truely those that continue to want to work at the realtionship and are willing to both give and recieve in the relationship will advance in a much stronger togetherness. However as soon as one of the partners in the relationship sit back and think that the other person needs to be the one making all the changes and refuses to see they too need to change, to grow, then no matter how strong the relationship once was it is now doomed, because they are failing at the new adjustment required to make it work.
