Is chivalry a thing of the past? email this discussion to a friend?

I love reading books and stories regarding the period of king Arthur, Richard the Lion Hearted and all those knights and their chivalry. Of course its quite romantic to imagine a dashing and handsome knight or royal person like a duke, a lord an earl treating a lady with chivalry and good manners but chivalry is not suppose to be unique to royalty or lords or knights of the Round Table and Camelot. I cannot help but wonder if the age of chivalry is long past and is already dead and gone. Is chivalry just a thing of the past or is it still out there and just needs to be found?

I think it's dying out with our past generations.

My two sons are 30 and 12. My oldest is good at opening doors, getting up and letting females and elderly people have his chair, letting the lady or elderly gentleman step a head of him in line at the store, things like that.

My youngest is still in the process of learning this. He wants to just root his way through and lets the door slam in your face. And that irks the tar out of me.

But we'll get it, one way or the other, he'll learn or wish he had.

It's really sad to note you are right Susan lee. The younger generation do not seem to have ever heard of chivalry and all it connotes. Tnx for sharing

Yes it is really so hard to find that people generally do not expect chivalry so much so that when someone goes out of his way to be chivalrous to them, they are either taken aback and forget to say thank you or else, they become skeptical suspicious of an ulterior motive. It's a funny world indeed.
