Would you ever work retail or would you ever go back to working it? |
|
I used to work at Walmart as a cashier. I used to love most of the people I worked with & I had more then a few customers that I liked very much. BUT retail can get ugly, especially around the holidays. Customers get rude & you have bosses breathing down your neck just waiting for you to make a mistake so that they can fre you & save some money on the payroll. Walmart itsef was NOT the best company to work for to begin with, but it did have it's moments, so I think if I had to go back to work again then yes I would work retail. But only if I really had to LOL.

1. GreenMoo (2198) | 7 months ago | I've not worked in retail since I was a weekend assistant back in school, but if I needed a job I'd consider it again. Every job has rough moments, and retail is no exception.

photographygirl73 (2004) | 5 months ago | I've had jobs in retail that I liked as well. Most especially when it came to the customers. For the most part they were great. Of course you get your ocassional rotten apple, but for me that was rare.

2. katsmeow1213 (2829) | 7 months ago | I've done mostly retail and food service. It was fun when I did it. I've worked at Walmart, but as an overnight stock person so I was not dealing with customers. But I was a cashier at a grocery store, at Home Depot, and I've delivered pizza and was a waitress. I've also worked at gas stations, in a deli. Yeah, I've pretty much done it all. My most recent job was last summer I was working part time at a movie rental store. Right now I'm content being a stay at home mom, but when the time comes, I will go right back to customer service jobs. I don't always like them, because customers can be rude and annoying, but I can't get much else right now, and when I do finally go back to work I will need flexible hours for my kids. Eventually I'd like to be a secretary though.

3. julyteen (4276) | 5 months ago | it is really hard if you work in a retail, otherwise, known us here department store. i observed all the crew are very careful in all their doings, afraid to be caught by their boss that always watched them whet they do. i won't allow myself to work in a retail store because it very hard to manage your work sometimes the pressure come from the boss.

photographygirl73 (2004) | 5 months ago | Oh yes that is so true. We always had the managers or the CSM's(customer service managers) always breathing down our necks for one thing or another. It used to make me so nervous that I would be doing my job fine up until then. After that I would make mistakes because I knew they were watching me.

4. Theresam (871) | 5 months ago | I am actually debating right now whether I should get a part time job in retail to help supplement my family's income. I worked retail for 7 years in high school and college. I enjoyed it for the most part.

photographygirl73 (2004) | 5 months ago | I enjoyed my many customers. There were more then a few that I knew by name. They were so nice. One customer even made me a whole thing of fudge when she heard that I had gotten married & brought it in the store for me. Thats what I miss the most, my customers.

5. silentangel (117) | 5 months ago | I've worked at different retail stores. I loved working for walmart. Despite the christmas holiday and other busy holidays, it was a nice environment to work for. I would for sure go work at walmart again, and not by force..LOL! I made alot of friends that were customers and co-workers while working there at walmart. My best friend turned out to be one of the managers. He was kinda loopy I think thats why he and I got along so well!

photographygirl73 (2004) | 5 months ago | Thats how I felt when I first started working at Walmart. I got along with everyone & made a lot of friends there. Then one by one people started leaving, new managers took over, & it just wasn't the same after that.

6. studentkelly (57) | 5 months ago | I work in retail now, in a bookstore. It's not as stagnant as Walmart work probably would be because I get to receive stock, stack shelves, help customers and rearrange displays etc. Plus I love to read, get a great discount and barring the manager, every one I work with is fabulous. I always find that retail experiences aren't about the people that you serve, but the people whom you serve with. So your friends on the other cash registers, your supervisors, etc. Retail is not an ideal job and full time, career people definitely scare me. But as background noise, as a means to an end, or while something else is going on it's great, mindless work which sometimes delivers a laugh and rarely gives genuinely bad times.
