incentives to quit smoking........will it work?  | |  In a unique experiment, Britain plans to pay smokers to kick their habit.
Smokers in deprived communities, in Dundee, one of Scotland's major cities, will be offered 12.50 pounds every week to quit smoking.The NHS's 5,00,000 pounds, 12-week pilot scheme is aimed at helping 900 people stop smoking over the next two years. The weekly 12.50 pounds will accrue onto an electronic card which can be redeemed for fresh food and groceries, but no alchohol and cigarettes. The smokers will get nicotine relacement therapy and will need a weekly carbon monoxide breath test to prove they are still smoke free.If the scheme is success it could be rolled out across other cities.

For example, those who weren't really smokers would start smoking just to be able to get the benefits. I think the government should make a foolproof plan regarding this.

YOULANLIU (250) | 4 months ago |  I do not quite think this is a effective methord ofsmoking ban.Or it can only be implemented in a limited scope.No-smoking as a public good activity,it needs people's active participation and broad support.Incentive measures may be effective to a certain extent,but it can not have a broad and long-lasting effect.Goverment can not provide pounds to all the smokers around the country or it can be called a waste of taxpayers'money.
