Juno and other teen-preg movies

I don't think that we are neccesarily encouraging teen pregnancy by showing it on the big screen. I strongly believe that people will make their own decisions regardless of what they see in the media. This like any moral dillema has much more to do with the social structure the children are around more so than what they view in films or telivision. I have not seen the film but I've heard a lot about it and have read some reviews.

i saw juno it was a ok movie ....just ok... im my mind movies like that arnt out there to promote teen pregnancy its more to show those who are that there is otherr options out there and those who arnt how hard it can be on those around you and on urself .... i dont feel movies intend to promote a diverse problem that is out there but more so aware people on stuf in relation to the problem

I saw this movie. In parts I thought it was funny. my ten year old son and eight year old daughter wanted to watch this movie, and my husband and I refused to let them because of the message we thought it was sending out about teen pregnancies. At the end she gives the baby up for adoption. I really have mixed feelings about his movie. but overall its not a movie i'm going to let my kids watch .

There was a recent news story about a group of high school girls who decided to all get pregnant and raise their kids together...

When you and I were teens, it was considered a fate worse than death to get pregnant while still in high school. Girls were sent away, and strongly encouraged to give their baby up for adoption. This school apparently has about 4 girls a year who get pregnant. This year the number is 17. So maybe you're right -- we are encouraging teen pregnancy.

its a very good movie y i say this is
the movie could have been made easily as a tear jerking technical movie..but the story is dealt with so much lightness that u laugh ur way till the end

Well I don't really think that these movies and stuff affect teen. I mean when I was around thirteen and graduating there were already girls that were pregnant. I'm 19 now and in high school there were a bunch of girls already pregnant. Teen pregnancy occurs all the time and none of that has to do with movies and stuff. But that's just my opinion. I've seen movies like that all the time and they have not influenced me to go out and get pregnant. It depends on the person.

I hadn't heard anything about this until now. I did hear on the news this week that 17 teens were pregnant at one school. they made a pact together to get pregnant at the same time in the same year. They slept with men older than they were just to get pregnant. They may be looking into statutory rape on these men also. I don't encourage teen pregnancy at all. They are not able to get jobs and take care of themsleves, let alone a baby.

I don't really think the movie Juno encourages teen pregnancy but I do think it showed this issue in a very sensitive manner. I do think perhaps seeing the news about Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy and the recent birth of her baby may make other young girls unrealistically think that if she can do it so can they. The truth is, she shouldn't have had a baby either at her age but she certainly has the means to take care of it that most girls her age do not. The story of the 17 girls from one high school who all made a "pregnancy pact" is very disturbing to me, though, and I really have no idea what would have caused them to even consider doing this!
