Lost Faith in Food Safety |
|
When food is being served to public, in such venues as restaurants, flea markets, country fairs and cafes, that leaves the public open to the possibility of terrorist activity via bacteria/virus contamination. It is not impossible.

1. beautyqueen26 (7205) | 3 months ago | That is a really good point. Who is policing food quality or contaminents for open air food vendors? I had not thought of that. I am skeptical to buy from such places anyway. But I had not thought of farmer's market fruits posing a danger. You never know. I will be more aware. Thanks!

zandi458 (1527) | 3 months ago | Food business is good money more so now that prices of raw food material have increased tremendously, buying cooked food is much cheaper as it is mass produced. We do have health officials going for spot checks to this eatery but is only confine to restaurants not those hawkers and open food stalls. cooked food must be consumed within 4 hours after cooking. After that bacteria sets in and god knows what happen.

2. ctobler0609 (210) | 3 months ago | That is a fantastic point! Who keeps watch over all of this? Anyone? Anyone at all?? Between the recent scares with tomatoes and the past scares with the spinach and lettuce...ahhh! The conveniences and companies that we would trustingly take for granted could be the ones killing us without anyone even knowing. If I think and fear too much about it I could inherit some serious phobia's. It would be nice, with all the technology they have these day, if they could create and enforce some type of scanning process that could detect contamination before foods are put out to the public. And I really would hate to be the conspiracy theorist and think that something like that does exist and it is purposely not being used (for what ever reason). This is a very good topic.

zandi458 (1527) | 3 months ago | Thanks for the compliment. I think we consumers are the best enforcement officials to monitor the situation, by not supporting and patronizing eateries that serves substandard food. Their survival depends so much on our support as consumers. Go only for food which is fresh and still hot. Before you look at the food have a glimpse on the outlook of the seller. If the seller is clean and neat it is likely that she is very careful with the food preparations.

3. oneandonemakesix (24172) | 3 months ago | I think there is always a threat of contamination, I don't even think terrorism needs to be entered into this, look at a fundraiser that Prime Rib was served there was an outbreak of ecoli from the beef, and it wasn't because it was under cooked, it is bringing awareness about there needs to be more testing, and what can be done to ensure the safety of the public... Mooch
