Saving on groceries

You are lucky to be able to get out that early. I used to do that before we had our son. LOL! I still get up early but cannot get OUT that early!

Those sound like some very good tactics there, Mike... way to go! I get groceries on Saturday mornings and I really don't see many savings that way, but it's not an option to go other days.

I do the coupon thing and I match them to the sale items of the week. Mark downs and specials are good, yes. It's also great when a store gives double value on coupons, but fewer of them are doing that lately.

I wish I could get out that early. But work interfeers lol.

I have all the best intentions when it comes to shopping. But the best laid plans...the thing that bugs me in this city is welfare Wednesday. When the low income people have a little bit to shop and the cupboards are bare. You would think that stores would have sales on the staples these people depend on but NOOO they jack up the prices on welfare Wednesday. At least it sure seems that way. I try to get out as early as possible on Saturdays to avoid the crowds. I hate a crowded supermarket! Nothing annoys me more than a crowd of people that are all in the way. My hats off to you for your frugal ways!

I have gone shopping Tuesday Mornings; however, am so tired that a good deal has to hit me over the head. Today I'm not feeling well, so didn't make it to the store. I have been walking to the store to help lose weight and save gas money.

My local store does some discounting every day including weekends. Its a good way to get discounted bagged fruit and vegetables. I do buy discounted meat to save money.

I read the ads every week and make a list. Items purchased must be products that my family will eat and not cause everyone to put on 100's of pounds.

That's a great tip, thanks for sharing. I'll have to do that. I just got into really making an effort to save on groceries and I'm addicted. It's a rush when you realize that you've just bought $250 worth for like $125. I did groceries for the month that way a few weeks ago.

I use those free little keychain cards for the savings clubs they have and wait for the buy one get one (or two) free sales then use the card for an even lower price and then use a coupon too. My fave is to use my one free whatever coupon in combination with that sale. Last time I got 3 cartons of soy milk all for free by doing that. You can get some great coupons for free items online.

What about 24 hour stores Mike? I tend to find that they have all day mark downs, but late afternoon is best for those. Light traffic is as you say, early morning. 7.30 is I find best. But I am not up that early to often these days.

I have no choice but to try and save on groceries. Its hard but I do have to try.
I use Pricesmart for some things and smaller groceries for others. I also check all the prices and go to the market when I can.
It pays in the long term but it can be discouraging when you see things going up all the time.
Right now food prices are mounting in Trinidad and its not going to get any better.
Its still fun trying and try I will.

Besides time of day and day of the week, also pay attention to day of the month for cheaper prices. Stores know lots of people get paid on the 1st and 15th, and social security comes out on the 3rd. Those are not good days to shop. Better deals can usually be found from the 10th to 14th and the 25th to the end of the month.
