Does the loss of your pet affect you really bad??

I'm very attached to all of my animals, and I cry myself sick, practically, whenever one of them dies. Heck, I even get upset when a dog gets sick, hurt, or dies on television! I'm usually functional after any death, human or animal, but it takes me awhile to get over any loss.

I'm sorry about your loss. I never stop missing my lost ones, but it does get easier to deal with their losses over time.

I've cried over lost pets like a family member, because that's what they were to me. I have found that getting another pet after a time of mourning helped me. I still would think of the lost pet and talk about it, but I found I still had enough love to give another pet. I always took photos of my pets, I have many things to remember them by.

I still get sad and sometimes cry when I think of the dogs I loved so much but they died. Mine always live a long time, Hector was 19 when I had to have him euthanized. I got to hold and kiss him while they did it so he didn't die alone. Domino was 13 and had a stroke and again I had to take him in and assist him on his journey to heaven. That was bad, I cried for months and still feel like it when I think of that.

Losing a dog is horrible. I'm not having any more after the two I have at the moment, they're 7 and 8 now and I wouldn't want a pet to outlive me--who would take care of them?!

I'm sorry you lost your Brownie. It hurts so badly, doesn't it? You miss them all your life!

We had lost our dog smokey about a month ago. We still cry sometimes. We got the dog about ten years ago from a shelter. We rescued it from an abusive home, where he was hit, left out in the winter (poor dog had frosbitten tender feet) and was barely given any food. When we picked him up his ribs were showing through his shaved body, but they left the hair on his face grow into a big mess of knots. It looked liek a lions mane! We werent really sure if he was going to last through the night actually, but he did. He took quite the liking to my parents though, a big suck up. So when he died it was like losing a son almost, he was with them more then me and my brother are.

Hi SangsTurks, I know what you mean and I feel the same way. When you lose a pet you are really losing a family member. I had a pet cat for thirteen years, and when he died it was very difficult. There is nothing wrong with feeling this way, and you are not a silly emotional freak, you are mourning the lost of a loved one. Blessings.

Yes I have cried, cried for weeks when my pet cat Roly died of cancer, I could even eat, and I'm 50s. You never get over it. Now I have two cats and they are my life

Yes, I cry when I've had a pet for a long time. About a year ago we lost our dog Gizmo that we had had for about 11 years. I cried and I still miss him. When I was younger we use to have a Alaskan Huskie German Shepherd named Brandy, he looked something like your dog. We had him for about 10 years. We kept him outside since he was so big. He was our guard dog. He was so pretty and such a great dog. I still miss him greatly. We all cried when he died, even my dad had tears in his eyes. My family just gets attached to dogs.

I've lost a number of pets over the years, and yes I'm the one wailing and crying when it happens. I get so attached and so easily. I just love animals. Last month someone left a kitten on my doorstep, and I was thrilled. I love kittens. But I really knew I shouldn't keep him since I have too many pets as it is. A neighbor lady had just recently lost her husband and told me how lonely she was - so I gave the adorable kitten to her. She just loves him - and I still miss him. I may have only had him 4 weeks, but I loved him. All I can do is remember I made the best choice all around. Its so hard losing pets....

I was 12 or 13 years old then when I lose my dog best friend, "Bianca" . I think she's more than 10 years when she died. Even as a child, I already felt the pain of losing someone we dearly love. I cried the whole day because I know I lost her.

I can definitely relate to this. My first dog who was with us about 11 years died in 2006. She was still so full of life, and there are questions still about why she got sick, but the worst part was she died 12 days after my birthday, so that is now a really hard time of year for me. It's been 2 years and I still cry, I still talk to her and I consider her my angel now. Every month on the 20th since she died I get weird, cry a lot and am just plain depressed. People said it would get easier, but it hasn't, and in a way, I don't want it to. I actually got a pillow made with her picture on it, did it at cafe press online. When I lay down at night I talk to her and hug the pillow. It definitely isn't the same, but it helps a little to have a physical representation of her. She was like a sister to me, and a best friend growing up. But since she died, I am a little less afraid of dying, because I believe I will be with her again, I know some people don't believe that animals go to heaven, and some don't believe in heaven even. But I have to, I don't know if I could get through each day if I didn't believe that deep in my heart.

So you definitely aren't a silly emotional freak. If you are, then I am and if I am.. and well, if I am, then fine.. but I can't stop caring.:)
