What is the least appealing word you can think of? | | Do you have any words you hate.. in any language? Think about it, something that just sounds icky, or has a forboding feel, or makes you angry, sad, frightened? I suppose on a lighter note, it could also be something that you hear way too often that you are sick and tired of hearing lol!

I abhor that word with the very core of my being. The "C" word (when referring to a woman, rhymes with runt) - the worse thing you could ever fling verbally at a woman, it's just as vile as the "N" word. The third one is F@ggot\F@g - Not only does it show how intolerant and hateful a person is, it is a disgusting way to treat someone and is discriminatory toward a person's sexual orientation.

mommyboo (1509) | 4 months ago | I hate all of those words. There's no way around how icky they are, even though there are people who say 'but they are just words' they have strong ties to negative things. The last one though.. I've heard that in England it's a cigarette? Is that true?

lvaldean (558) | 4 months ago | Those words are extensions of ignorance, no matter how they are used or in what context. I dislike them but understand their history and how they have been used historically. The interesting thing about words is how they morph over time and how they can be claimed and then reclaimed. Today some words have more or less power depending upon who or how they are used. I love the English language and thus don't disdain many words in it. I love to study the language and the history of words how the enter the lexicon, how their meaning changes over time, the power they have for both good and evil intent. It is really amazing the power that words have over us, over our emotional response. So I don't hate those words. I don't even dislike those words. I only dislike their use and their power in our society.

mommyboo (1509) | 4 months ago | Interesting perspective considering what I just wrote in response to the post above this one. I suppose 'hate' is what causes negativity though, and that's how words like in the above post come to be.

mommyboo (1509) | 4 months ago | I don't like universally negative words, things that have no redeeming value, like two of the words from the very first post, (n) and (c). One that I don't like so much personally is the word 'potential'. This word can be used in a good way, but it was often used as an underhanded way to cut me down as in 'you have so much POTENTIAL, why are you wasting it??'. Well okay, I THOUGHT I was using the talents I enjoyed, why would I want to use the ones I didn't enjoy to fulfill somebody else's idea of success? I'm still thinking about a silly word that I don't like simply due to how it sounds. My older daughter doesn't like the word 'delicious' but since she's not here, I don't have an explanation as to why. When I ask her I will add a comment. lol

mommyboo (1509) | 4 months ago | Ok I just thought of two more words I don't like. The first one is CAN'T. If you say it too often, it is a self fulfilling prophecy, pretty soon it becomes true, even if it wasn't to begin with. If you use the word can't in front of me, you also need to be prepared to say 'I will try' before you give up. The second one is BORED. In this day and age I have no earthly idea how anybody could possibly be bored. I have a hard enough time trying to figure out what to remove from my schedule to allow for 24 hours, since nobody has seen fit to give me 28, which is what I would like. That would mean one extra hour of sleep, one extra hour to sit here and browse and drink coffee, one extra hour to do laundry/cleaning, and one extra hour of alone time with hubby. When I was growing up, I got very good at figuring out how to entertain myself. If I didn't, my parents would find me something to do, something I probably would not like. I did have plenty of toys and art supplies and books, I read books all the time. Now I would say there is even more. Not just toys and books and art stuff but gaming systems, tv, computers, not to mention all the outside stuff. Kids are 'plugged in' all the time, if not a PSP or DS or something, games on cell phones, text, instant messaging. There is always plenty to do. Nope, I have no idea how anybody could ever utter the word 'bored'. If you're bored then I want what you have - likely no responsibility!
