Writing a reply... oops, gone! |
|
Has this ever happened to you? You are writing a very long, describtive response and for some reason it does not get send or gets lost some way or another and you can start all over again! It can be very annoying and some times I just leave it at that because I know I'll never get it that same way again. How do you react?

1. greysfreak (806) | 3 months ago | Oh yes, this has happened to me before. On here and other places. It is so frustrating when I write a long, well thought out post and then submit it and my internet goes out for a few minutes, or just long enough to suck my post into thin air. At first I feel like throwing my laptop across the room. But I try to chill, take a break if I need. Then I usually go ahead and post again, but maybe not exactly the same as I originally did, or maybe I write the same thing but actually end up writing less by saying things a little differently. But yea, when this happens I get so mad!:D

cyberfluf (1720) | 3 months ago | Ah yes... totally what I feel like when this happens. You would happily throw your pc out the window but on the other hand you can think logically and won't do that (thank God!), but you are very pissed of in the mean team. I try using ctrl+a, ctrl+c (select all, copy) before I post something, this way I have a copy and can paste it over if I need too, but sometimes I do forget and you'll allways notice these are the times you loose you writing:S Cruel irony that is...:P

2. underdogtoo (2614) | 3 months ago | It's happened to me not just once but several times. I don't know what causes it but it used to cause me grief and a frantic desire to recapture some eternally-important discussion. These days it doesn't much matter anymore. If it should happen again then I would just charge it to experience.

| 3. gwamster (24) | 3 months ago | Its a time out problem. The webpage becomes inactive after some time and when you press Post Response it has to become active again and I think it refreshes the page. Before posting your reply, copy it just incase. Or perhaps stop writing such long replys and work on shorter more factual and descriptive sentenses which portray your veiws clearly.

cyberfluf (1720) | 3 months ago | Thank you for this tip. I have started using the copy function and it works really fine. Writing short, to the point replies is hard for me. I have the same problem in school writing too long reviews and stuff... I'll try if I can make it a learning point here too. Have a good day.

4. myahw20 (806) | 3 months ago | Oh yeah. This is something i really hate. Sometimes I'm blogging something really fun and interesting and then suddenly boom. It is deleted.hehe and I cant write it again.

| |
|
|
cyberfluf (1720) | 3 months ago | I can see that with blogging it can be even more annoying because there aren't any guidelines to make a new post; as of here you can basicly make a smaller, to the point post if you find it neccessairy. I found out that ctrl-a (select all) and ctrl+c after that (copy) can be a livesaver:)

cyberfluf (1720) | 3 months ago | If that's your only complaint on mylot this once again proofs that mylot is a great site:) We can live with this I guess, but at the moment it happens I just feel like throwing stuff around:P Thanks for adding to the discussion!

shamsta19 (410) | 1 month ago | And thank you for the BR! Just the other day I was posting a discussion and got all into detail and when I tried to post lost it. Now you know after typing all that (and it was pretty lengthy) I was not going to retype! Left Mylot alone for the day after that. I am looking forward to my first payment this month so I am pretty excited bout that though.

6. richiem (991) | 3 months ago | It had happened to me a lot of time already. I guess I have no choice but to rewrite it again. Of course, I may have to change words to make it shorter because sometimes I don't have enough time. But you are above the 500th mark now, you can use the copy and paste privilege. I don't have it yet so I think I have to suffer those disappearing responses.
| |
| |
|
|
cyberfluf (1720) | 3 months ago | Copy and paste privilege? I had no idea you can't copy and paste below 500 posts? Is the ctrl+c function disabled beneath 500 posts? This sounds very interesting as I haven't heard anything on this before. If you have more info, please share:)
| |
|
|
richiem (991) | 3 months ago | Yes, you only acquire the copy and paste privilege after you have reached the 500th post. Its myLot's policy so that it can prevent spammers from flooding the discussions with the same responses. Together with this privilege is the privilege to add a photo in your responses. You can add photo in a discussion after the 200th post, but in 500th post, you are able to add photos to responses.

7. cher913 (7861) | 3 months ago | oh i hate when this happens! it is such a drag to have to try and think of what i wrote in the first response and i know that the second response is never the same as the first.

cyberfluf (1720) | 3 months ago | Thank you for adding to this discussions, I can very much relate to it. I feel the same way when I retype a discussion, that's why I sometimes decide just to leave it at that and don't bother rewriting.

8. theprogamer (7378) | 3 months ago | I keep seeing this problem and I keep recommending the same things. For one, put your longer or more important discussions and responses into wordpad, Microsoft Word or Abiword. Copy and paste the discussion into the response sheet. Of course this only works at 500 contributions or more and the only other way of doing this is to retype what you put in your word program. Fear not. Option 2, try getting Opera as a browser. http://www.opera.com/download/ For one thing, the posts remain in the textbox even when I hit the "back" button to see what the discussion looks like. I've tried this numerous times and its an interesting quirk of the browser. This also works when hitting submit and you get an error/non-connect message from the site or browser. You can simply hit "back" to get back to your textbox response/discussion and it'll be there. In case you don't believe that, you can look into the Notes tool for Opera. With Notes, you can write your discussion as a separate note. When you get to the discussion/response text area, right click in the text area and click insert note: all of your notes will come up as options. Select the note you wish to place and it'll be in the textbox. Another option you have, and this is only available with Firefox browser: Add Note. This is an add on that allows you to write notes. You can write your notes and then copy them (or write them verbatim if not at 500 contributions) into the textbox. You can save your notes too as tabs. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/46

cyberfluf (1720) | 3 months ago | Thank you for all the recommendations, there are a lot in there that seem worth a try and I'll surely have a look into them. My boyfriend allready used firefox so perhaps I can get it from him and he can explain to me how it works. I allways find it easier when someone can explain in person. The thing with the notes in firefox sounds great, seems to be one of the best options in there. Thank you once again for a great response:)

10. pink_bunny (111) | 2 months ago | YES...it just have happened again to me a while ago. I seldom get this mood to write lengthy reply and I was just doing exactly that a while ago and kaboom...my internet connection played up again. It is very annoying but what can you do really? Bang your head onto your monitor? (LOL) Just see if you can recall at least the flow of thoughts in your reply and re-write it again. If you can't, then maybe try replying in another way..you know, play around with your words while keeping the sense intact. If you've lost all your thoughts and cannot gather back your wits again anymore...then maybe just log out and have a cup of tea/coffee or whatever drink that will relax you a bit. That might bring your mood back and then, you can start fresh again.
