Blueberries

I've made blueberry cobbler, mix berry cobbler, blueberry pie, I've put it in ice cream to make blueberry shakes, blue berry pancakes.. There are many different things you can make with them..

Me too when I was a kid my grandmother and us used to go out all the time looking for places to pick and pick alot of them and we'd bring them home and grandma would clean them and make pies and such with them also.. Last year I didn't get many cause I was sick most of the summer due to deer ticks... Thanks for your reply.

The other day I was at the store and wanted to buy some so badly that I actually picked them up and put them in the cart. When I walked a little ways I looked at them and the price was so much that I just had to put them back.. It was like 3.98 for a little container of blueberries almost the same as a gallon of gas lol

i've never had Blueberry/Rhubarb jam before I've had strawberry before though and that's great.. I really need to learn how to make these jams so that I can use them during the winter when I want too.. Our isn't out just yet either but i did take a walk today and they are starting to turn purple a little so it won't be long for them to be ready to be picked... Thanks for your reply!

during season they are in the store here.. We have a few blueberry places where we can pick them and buy them but I'm cheap lol I'd rather go and pick them for free... However I've thought about maybe this year going to get some from the blueberry farm so that I have plenty to work with... I know my neighbor usually buys about 20 5 gallon buckets from me so I do pick alot..

I've really thought about buying some plants even though we do have some wild blueberries already, A person can never have enough that I do know... The only thing I don't like is when I get poison Ivy all over me that stuff is so bad that it's sick lol... Every year I tend to get it on me.. When I was a kid though it never phased me..

Oh, I know all about poison ivy too. I'm so allergic that all I have to do is see it to end up covered in it!

Exactly like me, My son and hubby can walk right threw it and nothing.. I am not sure why though when i was younger it didn't do anything to me but now that I am older it does.. I am hoping that this summer when I go out to pick It won't be as bad... ha ha all the rain we had though and sunshine I'm sure there's plenty out there just waiting for me...lol

I haven't had one of those either in a long long time I am itchy for one though lol So soon enough I will be making some... This is what they looked like today when I went out to see if they were ready or not you can see they are still green.. You almost have to look extreamly close to them in order to see them on the bush..

Well when you do go picking blueberries make sure that you back a pie. Have fun!!

Yes I agree they are.. We have some places here were we can go and buy both blueberries and strawberries.. But I'd rather go out and pick my own, When you think about it your spending more money buying them than what you can pick yourself... I can do 3 ice cream buckets of blueberries a day if there is some good picking spots.. Thanks for your reply!

lol I was thinking of planting some strawberry plants this year but never did get around to doing so.. I am sure there would have been alot to pick too.. I was at wal-mart a few weeks ago and noticed that they did have some blueberry bushes for sale but they wanted like 6-7.00 for each one of them.. It would be nice if you could plant your own and they would grow that way but that would take a few years mainly to get some berries on them.. Thanks for your reply!!!

The 4 strawberries that managed to grow on my 2 plants were the best strawberries I've ever eaten in my life!! They were sooo sweet and warm from the sun without even a hint of a hint of tartness. I will never eat store bought strawberries again, I will do without before I will be able to do that after tasting them right off the vine.

I wouldn't mind waiting for the blueberry bushes to grow, but I hate having to wait to get the money to buy them. I can't even find any growing around here to dig up and plant in my yard. I don't even know if they will grow in Virginia, I guess I'll have to find out before I buy 10 or 15 baby bushes! At the Walmart where you saw them were they just one scraggly forlorn looking branch?

I would think that blueberries would grow just about anywhere but I guess I am wrong on that part... lol I too love blueberry pie and can't wait to make some soon.. Thanks for your reply!
