Is music a stress buster? |
|
Hello friends, I know this discussions must be posted many times on mylot, but I couldnt find any. It always happens with me that, whenever I am in stress, or feeling low, or in some kind of tension, I just switch on the music. It really helps me a lot to lower down my tension, stress and make me feel relaxed. Also, when I am tired I take the help of music to make my mind feel relaxed. Atleast I am able to relax by mind if not by body. Does it happens with you also??

1. xcarax (1393) | 4 months ago | Listening to music does wonders to alleviate stress. Please note that everyone has different tastes in music. Listen to the music that you feel comfortable. Sitting down and forcing yourself to listen to relaxation music that you don't like may create stress, not alleviate it. Music has always been a great healer. In the Bible, we learn about how David played the harp to help ease his severe depression of King Saul . Music is a significant mood-changer and reliever of stress, working on many levels at once. Many experts suggest that it is the rhythm of the music or the beat that has the calming effect on us although we may not be very conscious about it. They point out that when we were a baby in our mother's womb, we probably were influenced by the heart beat of our mother. We respond to the soothing music at later stages in life, perhaps associating it with the safe, relaxing, protective environment provided by our mother. Music can be one of the most soothing or nerve wracking experiences available. Choosing what will work for any individual is difficult, most will choose something they 'like' instead of what might be beneficial. In doing extensive research on what any given piece of music produces in the physiological response system many unexpected things were found. Many of the so-called Meditation and Relaxation recordings actually produced adverse EEG patterns, just as bad as Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. The surprising thing was many selections of Celtic, Native American as well as various music containing loud drums or flute were extremely soothing. The most profound finding was Any music Performed Live and even at moderately loud volumes even if it was somewhat discordant had very a beneficial response. Whenever the proper sounds were experienced an amazing right/left brain hemisphere synchronization occurred. The normal voltage spiking pattern changed to a smooth sinusoidal waveform and the usual voltage differential equalized. The entire human energetic system is extremely influenced by sounds, the physical body and chakra centers respond specifically to certain tones and frequencies. Special consideration should be given to the positive effects of one actually playing or creating music themselves. Among the first stress-fighting changes that take place when we hear a tune is an increase in deep breathing. The body's production of serotonin also accelerates. Music was found to reduce the pain during dental procedures. Playing music in the background while we are working, seemingly unaware of the music itself, has been found to reduce the stress. Music was found to reduce heart rates and to promote higher body temperature - an indication of the onset of relaxation. Combining music with relaxation therapy was more effective than doing relaxation therapy alone.

2. kingcrapper (1007) | 4 months ago | I like getting out the MP3 player when I am stressed and head for the road. I love to walk and with the combination of physical movement and the blaring of ACDC, Billy Joel and others I get back to where I need to be. Are you a visual person? When I hear music I will commonly develop a 'video' that goes with it and it really helps out too. Great post! Everyone should find their own stress buster just for the sake of survival!

4. yurishibuya13 (137) | 4 months ago | listening to music makes you feel relaxed especially those songs that you love listening to or whichever applies (depending on your mood). take mine as an example, if i'm angry and i want to calm down, i listen to underground punk rock, alternative songs. when i'm happy and in the mood, i listen to club music. when in-love, sentimental or nostalgic, i listen to love songs, slow-jams, etc. i hope my response helps. | 6. linda_ice (1) | 4 months ago | yeah, I think most people use music as a stress buster or to help ease or induce certain mood states. For example when I was younger and would get really angry or find myself unable to stop crying there was always a few certain tracks (usually some rock/metal ones) that if i put on would help me get rid of all the extra tension and calm down. Likewise you can use chilled music to either calm you down or help with sleep etc. When I had trouble sleeping I found listening to the same cd everynight really helped me get off to sleep after a while - think I choose Ok computer - lol! Plus if you find yourself a bit too lethargic puttin on something a bit more upbeat will work wonders. I dont know about you but I hate mornings and find the radio alarm clock can be unpredictable so i've started using my CD player to make sure a nice lively song - tho not too loud at the start - to wake me up in the morn. It's like a caffeine free coffee! music as well as being great to listen to has many helpful uses!

7. crazyoverpurple (1403) | 4 months ago | I'd like to believe so. I used to work as a billing officer so you can just imagine the workload plus the numerous paperworks/billings I prepare almost everyday. So as soon as I get to the office, I'd connect my earphones to my computer speakers and switch the music on. Listening to music made me work better and it relieved me of the stress I face everyday at work. Weird but even as a student, I was able to concentrate better on my assignments or when I'm reviewing if the radio's turned on or if there was music playing in the background.

8. bianca0531 (323) | 4 months ago | Yes. Music is totally a stress buster. Listening to the music has always been a healer to me. Whenever I got stressed, depressed or tired, I usually turn on my radio and lie in my bed. It makes my body, mind and soul feel relaxed and refreshed.
| |
| |
|
|
onlynaval (237) | 4 months ago | As you must be aware that all the body nerves and soul is connected to mind, directly or indirectly. So if you listen to music, your mind get relaxed, and if mind if relaxed, all the others connected to your mind will itself feel relaxed.

9. padmameera (818) | 4 months ago | Music relaxation is the easiest and most effective forms of relaxation available and music is a great stress management tool. It can promote relaxation of tensed muscles, and enables you to release the tension. music can help the brain get into a meditative state, which has stress relief benefits. Music, especially upbeat tunes, can take your mind off what stresses you, and help you feel more optimistic and positive. This helps release stress and can even helps you from getting as easily stressed in future.
