Sincere question to Atheists | | Yesterday I went to a funeral for my husband's uncle. As I sat there and listened to the service I realized that most of the words spoken were about the comfort of God in times of loss. I started to wonder about what type of service people have that don't believe in God. I am sure there are families that have a mother, father and children that are all atheist and when the mother or father passes away. How is the service done? Yes, I am a christian, but that isn't here nor there in this question. I'm not asking about anyone's opinion about what or who is right or wrong. I am just curious how a funeral service is approached. Is it performed in a church, at the graveside, at the funeral home? Who speaks over the deceased? Exactly how is it done?
