Could you live in a Walmart? |
|
Once upon a time, I saw a movie, called "Where the heart is." It was about a pregnant teen (Natalie Portman) who was living in the local Walmart after being abandoned by her boyfriend on a road trip. It has always made me wonder whether or not it would be possible to live in a retail store undetected, in real life. Not just in the movies. Our local Walmarts are open all night, so there are always employees on the floor and security is very tight. But maybe such a thing would be possible in a hardware store that shuts down for night time. What do you think?

2. beeeckie (307) | 4 months ago | My girlfriend and her buddies, years ago, spent some hours in an almost empty all-night Wal-Mart, playing Highlander in the aisles. I don't think it's plausible to live in a Wal-Mart, or any store.

3. latriciajones (621) | 4 months ago | i saw that movie too, and i loved it. but i think i could live in a walmart, but i dont think it would be possible becuse most of the walmarts here actually stay open for 24 hours so they have people there all the time. but it sure woul be nice, since walmart is my favorite place to visit. i could go to walmart just to look around and i will always end up spending about $20 or $40.

beautyqueen26 (7390) | 4 months ago | Actually, I have heard it was based on a real life event too. Not sure how close to reality the movie stays. But it's an excellent movie. Kudos to the cast and writer. Movie was very well done.

beautyqueen26 (7390) | 4 months ago | Wasn't there a Tom Hanks movie called, "The Terminal" or something like that, where he ended up living in the airport? Supposedly that was inspired by a true story.

6. stagewhisper (699) | 4 months ago | I've heard of people who have lived in gyms, if that counts. I have a friend who lived out of the back of his car for six months, and worked fulltime at a gym. The gym was a slightly higher-end type, so not only could he get a shower there, but he could also get a bite to eat at the bar once in a while. Apparently it's a good way to save up on money, so long as you don't mind living out of your car/gym.

7. Ruthep (3311) | 4 months ago | It would entirely be possible. Employees don't always check all over the store like they should. Some stores do have pretty good places to hide in too. I like that movie. So does Gwen. The first night I watched he sat down with me and after it was over she asked to watch it again some time. It was sad though, but good ending.

8. twallace (2586) | 4 months ago | I was that movie and it was really nice. Could I live in a wal mart yes!! If it was not 24 hours. MOst of them everywhere just about are 24 hours so it would be hard to live in one right about now. It could be possible though I guess.

9. Shaun72 (11274) | 4 months ago | Possibly. I mean as long as they had clothes and everything. The only problem would be a bath. of course there is usally a bathroom in most stores. So if nothing there is always a sink and soap. Washing their hair could be a problem though. Well maybe not just kind of difficult.

beautyqueen26 (7390) | 4 months ago | That's what the girl did in the movie. Basically she took a bath in the sink. Or maybe she used that thing that connects to the faucet. I can't remember what it's called.

10. foxyfire33 (5755) | 4 months ago | Could I do it? Heck, yeah! It'd be better than being here. Is it realistic? Probably not. Even after the store closes (assuming it's not a 24 hour store, there are cleaners and stockers and that's usually an all night shift so technically the store is always open...just not for customers. I wonder if a 24 hour store would be easier to live in. They wouldn't be doing security checks to make sure restrooms were empty and the shifts change often enough for new emploees to be around and not recognize you as often. Plus there's usually enough hustle and bustle around the clock that I bet it wouldn't be too hard to slip behind boxes on a high shelf or into a display tent to sleep.
