Cafe D is now open for business! |

I'm very excited. I finally broke down and bought a new coffee maker yesterday. My old one was in bad shape, and I rarely used it, which means I hadn't used my lovely coffee grinder in ages. I was just drinking instant out of convenience, laziness, and finances. I am just one person, so making coffee for 12 seemed rather silly. My new coffee maker is a cool stainless steel four cup Cuisinart. It's got that brilliant auto shut off so I don't burn my house down. And, best of all, I can now grind my own beans again! I'm in heaven! Talk to me about your at home coffee habits. Do you grind and brew? Do you just brew? Are you an instant kind of person? Or, do you just not bother and hit the local Starbucks or Tim Horton's? Talk to me!

1. p1kef1sh (3076) | 4 months ago | It's not often that I apologise for responding to a discussion, but I am in this case. I am not a great coffee drinker at all and would drink instant over fresh ground anytime. Fresh ground smells wonderful, but makes me literally sick to my stomach. I can drink a maximum of two cups a day before becoming ill. I have one cup of instant at 11ish in the morning and that's my lot. All those coffee bar places just leave me cold. I once received an e mail from Apple Computers telling me that I could now use my iPhone (which I don't own) in Starbucks. Sorry Apple, finding me in one of those places means that I've decided to kill myself so won't need the phone hookup facility. LOL. Sorry again for being Mr Negativity. Hope that today is going well for you. Congratulations on beating us!

p1kef1sh (3076) | 4 months ago | I don't know but it feels like someone is scraping the inside of my stomach with a blunt knife! My other dislike in the coffee department is cream. Give me milk, preferably skimmed within a% of its life. Yes, please hang with us. I don't know what we will be doing, probably starting a few fireworks of our own.

dfn12968 (5580) | 4 months ago | Very interesting on the cream/milk thing. You're not yankin my chain, are ya??? LOL

p1kef1sh (3076) | 4 months ago | Yanking your chain. Is that in China? LOL. Of course not!
| |
dfn12968 (5580) | 4 months ago | Yes, as a matter of fact, the last time I checked, my chain was in China. I think it needs to be yanked back! LOL

2. piasabird (826) | 4 months ago | I have coffee every morning. It's part of my daily routine. I have a pretty bad coffee maker right now. I'd get a better one but finances are tight right now so I'm making do for now. I have a little coffee grinder but I don't use it very much. I buy coffee that is already ground. I would never drink instant coffee though. I just don't like it. And with gas so expensive in the US now I would never spend the kind of money that Starbucks charges for a coffee.

dfn12968 (5580) | 4 months ago | I know, Starbucks is really crazy expensive. It used to be a staple, now it's just a treat...once a week if that, and usually not that often.

3. kimbers867 (1102) | 4 months ago | I literally just started drinking hot coffee about 6 months ago. I can't believe what I have been missing. I love cold coffee drinks. It's just DH and I who drink it so we have a 4 cup coffee maker. That is fine for us. I only drink coffee and nothing else. Which means I do not drink coffee with meals or dessert. I like to enjoy it by itself. We do have a grinder but haven't used it in so long. DH likes his coffee weak, I like mine strong! You need to try Seattle's Best breakfast blend. We tried a sample of it and love it!!! It is so good! What is a Tim Horton's? I have never heard of it.

dfn12968 (5580) | 4 months ago | Tim Horton's is primarily a Canadian chain, kimbers, but I have heard there are some in certain parts of the US. I love SBC, but I don't know if I have tried the breakfast blend. I can't ever find any SBC here in North Carolina.
| |
kimbers867 (1102) | 4 months ago | I will have to keep my eye's open for Tim's. Look at Target for SBC, I saw it there the other day. I didn't pick it up because I didn't have my $1.00 off coupon! LOL I think I am going to make an iced coffee after dinner.
| |
dfn12968 (5580) | 4 months ago | I just made a chocolate banana smoothie and put some coffee in it. It was darn good. LOL I am actually on my way to Target in a few minutes. I'll check to see if I can find some SBC. Hey, did you know Starbucks owns SBC? Though bought them out last year, I think.

4. zeloguy (1976) | 4 months ago | I am not a coffee drinker so none of the above for me but my wife does drink coffee already ground (keeps the grinds in the refrigerator?) and has a coffee maker that can make just one cup at a time. Thanks Zelo

| |
dfn12968 (5580) | 4 months ago | I don't think I even knew there were one cup coffee makers, Zelo. The one I got, even though it says four cups, really only makes two full ones.
| |
zeloguy (1976) | 4 months ago | Yeap it's actually really cool. You use just the right amount of grinds are supposed to use these expensive small filters but instead she just takes the big ones that are really cheap and cuts them down to size. There are also machines that are VERY expensive but you put the beans in the top and when you want a coffee it grinds the beans and then brews the coffee of your choice. A lot of convenience stores are using these now... a fresh cup of coffee every time. The one I saw even made hot chocolate. Thanks Zelo

6. nerdytina (1641) | 4 months ago | I brew a full pot (about 12 cups) each morning and my boyfriend and I split it. Lately we've just been buying store brand coffee (today it's Safeway brand coffee). Sometimes we splurge and get something a little more fancy, but not often. I have a coffee grinder that I've had for years but have never used. I really really want to use it, but I just can't afford any of the whole beans! I refuse to give it away because I will someday use it regularly (or so I tell myself). I consider going to cafes more of a treat every few weeks. I try to avoid them because I always want to get the sugary drinks, and I could probably spend the $3+ in a better way.

dfn12968 (5580) | 4 months ago | I love my grinder nerdytina! Once you start using it, you'll want to use it all the time. I always want to get the foofy stuff too when I go to coffee shops. Frappuccios, lattes, etc. Once in a while I splurge now, but I don't go nearly as often as I used to.
