Will you be watching YouTube as much now? |
|
Now that Google is to be forced to make user information available to Viacom, will you be watching YouTube as much as before? It seems likely that any (and all) user information and activity can be used in support of Viacom's copyright infringement lawsuit. http://news.yahoo.com/s/n... This also highlights, of course, the fact that all of our activity on the Internet may be subject to scrutiny. Nothing is private or can be deemed to be secret. If the FBI decided that you were worthy of investigation for something you wrote on MyLot in an unguarded moment, for example, they could very quickly have a record of EVERYWHERE you have been on the Internet (including private emails)! How worried are you about this?

2. p1kef1sh (3076) | 4 months ago | I have to say that I am not sure what Viacom is going to do with the millions of addresses it will receive from Google. Does watching a "pirate" video on Youtube make you potentially liable to prosecution? I work very much on the basis that everything that I say or do on the internet is potentially of interest to someone, and that there are plenty of people out there that want to make a few bob out of me. They worry me more than the FBI or Police. I suspect that what we will see is an increase in the number of people that will access from behind proxy walls. There will be a predictable media hysterical outburst an civil liberties groups will cry foul. I have heard of a system whereby you go to Mr Smith's and purchase an implement called a pen. You also buy some paper and envelopes. He will even sell you as stamp.............

coffeebreak (2807) | 4 months ago | Yeah, that implement called a pen...I am introducing my grand daughter (8 yo) and she loves it! I write to her every week! She recently wrote a paper in second grade about her Personal Hero and she wrote about me!!! And one of the things that she mentioned was that she loves it when I write letters to her while she is at her daddy's house. And that she keeps them all in a special box on her dresser! And all because a thing called "pen and paper".... with a tad bit of snail mail on the side!

3. CornishAustin (102) | 4 months ago | I'm not really that worried, simply because I use Youtube just to watch videos and not upload anything. It's those who upload copyrighted content that the authorities are seeking, and not the people who simply watch the videos online. After all, what could they do us with, just simply watching videos? I can't see how that could be against the law.

4. nannacroc (1699) | 4 months ago | Sadly I have got to the stage where I feel there is no point in worrying about who is or isn't spying on us. If we go shopping we're watched, if we go to the cinema we're watched. Everyone seems to be watching everything we do unless we are criminals, in which case you can literally get away with murder.

5. Angelwhispers (4601) | 4 months ago | Not worried at all, it is not any different then what they can find out about you right now. All of our discussions show up on google. As far as utube, the copyright law is not being broken by watching a video it is broken when copywrited material is uploaded with out the permissions you need to distribute that material. Our ISP's are already capable of tracking our movements and emails never ever disappear.

6. coffeebreak (2807) | 4 months ago | Truth be known....they are already watching and following us...we just don't know it yet! I don't do UTube so not concerned there, but have noticed my disucssions show up on GOggle pages and I hadn't a clue they'd be there! That old "ISP" number attached to your PC - how many numerals is that? "666" or combination thereof? There is so much out there that the govt knows about us. Thing is... if they know so much and follow and watch so much and even if they don't, they can if they want to...why is it so hard to solve crimes and what people do to "cover themselves" that involve PC or PC communications between ...?... and the law can't find anything on them.... bet they can if they wanted to badly enough!

8. pyewacket (8519) | 4 months ago | I don't think I'll change my Youtube viewing habits at all, and as far as getting username information, just about any information about us can be found out anywhere...For instance, if you do a google search for either your username or real name, something is bound to come up...I actually have pages of stuff on me....from many of my MyLot discussions posted, my websites, blogs, everything...even articles about me and my mother when we were facing eviction issue. Also, one can also go to the White or Yellow pages and also type in a name and you can usually find out a person's address and phone number...for about $15 you can find even more depth info on a person, such as finding out their social security number, if they have prison records the works....I think any of us who just plain use the internet and have ourselves "out there" in cyberspace our info really isn't all that private

9. lossforredwords (2703) | 4 months ago | This seems not a big issue for me since I don't think that Google will do all the workload just to find some small suspicious user. I think it rather going to be just a warning to those who do under the table and unwanted activity on the internet. If your clean why bother.
