 In the days of our parents and grandparents, "cooking from scratch" was the common way to cook. Convenience foods were not readily available.
Were you taught the fine art of cooking from scratch when you learned to cook? Do you cook from scratch in your home now? Are you be interested in learning to cooking from scratch to help reduce your grocery bill?

Been there, done that! Don't wanna go there again. lol
I like convenience foods. They're so convenient and fast and easy.
Do you really think it's cheaper to cook from scratch? Yeah, I guess it is. I might have to do that then. Money is getting tighter all the time. But I really prefer just popping something in the microwave.

 newtondak (1294) | 4 months ago | I do believe that you can cook from scratch cheaper than you can use convenience foods. Initially, while you're stocking your pantry, you may spent a little more, but it is well worth it and will save money in the long run.
I also like to know what's in my food - and be able to pronounce it! There are so many preservatives in many of the prepared foods and who knows the actual effect those have on our bodies!

I remember both my grandmas cooking from scratch. They would make noodles, pie crusts, dumplings, cakes, cookies, stuffing, icing, and a whole lot more from what they had in their cabinets.
I'm not much into baking. But I do like to cook fresh vegetables such as carrots, new potatoes, green beans, tomatoes, etc.
I do the convenience foods quite a bit. It's quick and easy...just pop it in the microwave for about 5 to 8 minutes and I have a meal.
I know what you mean about the prices being outrageous at the convenience marts. A quart size of Ben and Jerry's is a little over $6 whereas I can get the same one at Walmart for a little over $3. Crazy isn't it?
