Can this kitten come down without help? email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 96/100. polachicago (6169)   ranked 5 out of 6,187 in cats4 months ago

My heart is broken.
Little black kitten is sitting on the top of the tree crying for help.
It happened next to bank location.
Local residents call fire department, but fire department refused to help.
The tree is very, very tall.
Kitten is sitting on very soft branch.
I call at least 10 local numbers, humane society and local vets.
They say that kitten can fall down on lower branch and eventually come down.
This kitten is crying loud for help…
I took many pictures, what can I do to help?
Any ideas?

I don't recall ever seeing any cat skeletons in trees in my fifty-one years. They must get down on their own somehow.

I think you've done all that you can do by calling all of those places. If the Humane Society isn't interested then I don't know what to say.

Cats can fall from very high places and not get harmed. Maybe they are correct and it will jump to a lower branch and eventually come down from the tree.

I know it is a hard thing to hear it crying. I love animals, too. But, I have no idea what you can do about it other than what you've already done.

So the chances are for cat to be OK?

myLot reputation of 85/100. banadux (518)  4 months ago

I agree. I am pretty sure the cat can get down on it's own. If the cat is young it just might not know it yet, but it will figure things out once it gets hungry or thirsty enough. I really don't think people should do anything dangerous to get a cat down out of a tree when it will be fine on it's own.

ShadoCat (45)   ranked 775 out of 6,187 in cats  4 months ago

Call the local news. Have them do a story about "a kitten in the tree and no one will help."

I'm pretty sure someone will help then.

KittenKitten (67)  4 months ago

Call the locat news is very good idea!

Is there any update on the kitten? Not to alarm you but contrary to some of the other posts I have heard of kittens falling from trees and perishing from a broken neck or otherwise. A kitten is very naive. I just rescued one that was under the tire of a car and he did not move quick enough when the car started. He did get run over and has 4 fractures. At 11 weeks old, he is going to have expensive surgery. He may lose his leg. I hope you got your kitten down from the tree safely. It is also a myth that cats/kittens can survive a long fall if someone drops them from a relatively substantial height. They are not rubber balls and one still has to be careful.

Can you climb the tree to get it? Even if you get to some branches that aren't as high, the kitten may understand that you are trying to help and try to come down a little. Be sure to have a towel or a blanket to wrap it in, in case it starts to panic (I've done this before - and as trusting as the kitten may be, it still is nervous, so the blanket or towel or sweater or whatever, really helps).

I imagine once others see you trying to help, there will be others who may pitch in to help as well.

I know I would.

This is the tallest tree in town, no way to get there without help....I am not able to....
It is probably someones kitten, or wild one....
I took this picture with 300 zoom.......
No way anyone other than fire department to get on the tree....

myLot reputation of 95/100. gantwick (586)   ranked 433 out of 6,187 in cats  4 months ago

Well, as others have already said, it will eventually get down unharmed.

I had a cat once who was tormented by a squirrel who used to throw acorns at her. She chased the squirrel up the tree, but it got away. She leaped to the top of the house where we lived and yowled until I came outside. I went to get a ladder to get her down and by the time I got back, she had climbed to the peak of the roof and was yowling louder. I climbed the ladder and she was gone. I looked all over the roof, calling out, "Freckles! I'm here, Freckles!"

When I finally "found" her, she was on the ground meowing at me, as if to say, "What are you doing up there, you silly human? I'm hungry!"

The next time she got "stuck" in a tree, I ignored her (the neighbors thought I was being mean at first). Although she looked like a frail, delicate little thing, she had an amazing climbing and leaping ability, which she used when she thought nobody was watching.

I'll bet this kitten will find that it, too, has some talents that it wasn't aware of yet.

This kitten is scared but its survival skills will enable him/her to climb down the tree. This is the reason there is refusal of help. Kitten has always been into scraps like this and by time you look they are down the tree and sailing away while you are there wondering what has just happen. There is no danger.

I know it's hard to not do anything when a kitten is scared and crying but they really can get themselves out of trees. Even if it does fall, cats can fall from long distances and survive because of how their bodies are built. If it was on your own propeerty you could put a dish of food at the base of the tree to try to intice the cat to come down but since it's on bank property there's really nothing you can do. It wll come down eventually and be fine.

This is not on my property, but local residents place bowl next to the tree....
Many people try to help....

Hi I was going to suggest the same here by putting a bowl of food down, it will come down eventually it is in a cats instinct to do so even though as a kitten it is scared to righ now. Ellie:D

The cat is crying because it's scared. If you could get up to it and try to help it down, chances are it would try to get away from you and possible get hurt. It will find a way down. I've lived with cats since I was a little girl. My Dad would almost have to pick me up and carry me into the house when a kitten got up a tree and cried for help, but the next morning there would be the kitten, lined up with all the rest of the litter waiting to be fed!

Aww poor baby, I hope he gets down ok. The poor little thing has to be so scared. All you can do is hope for the best. I think when he gets hungry enough he will try something. Hopefully if he falls he can catch himself on some lower branches. If he was lower and on stronger branches some neighbor kid could probably climb up and get him. If a person gets stuck up there trying to ge the cat, then the fire dept would come out to rescue the person. Its an idea, now you just have to find a volunteer.

Maybe if you go sky diving Pola,
On the way to landing,
You can grab the kitten,
And bring him down with you.

I see you posted this 2 hours ago, is that poor little kitten still there? I saw many times my cats on the trees and the reason was, almost every time, a dog.
They know how to climb trees and they are very quick, so I don't think she will fall down, and remember cats have 9 lives. thumbup

Call a tree trimmer and explain the situation. Tell him you want him to get the cat down from the tree. It shouldn't be too expensive as he won't be trimming the tree, just going up to get the cat.

You will need a cage to put the cat in so you can take it home.

Will you keep kitty or rehome it?

myLot reputation of 43/100. piasabird (826)   ranked 4,572 out of 6,187 in cats  4 months ago

A friend of mine climbed a tree to get a stray cat down. It scratched him and gave him blood poisoning and he ended up in the hospital.

I would be very careful.

they contact me from human society and told me that kitten will eventually come down when hungry....

Suppose there is nothing you can do now, do not so sad and worry too much, take care yourself well and pray for poor little things.
