Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden..... email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 84/100. sparkofinsanity (1870)   ranked 1 out of 693 in messing with your mind3 months ago

I've been doing a lot of reading of all kinds lately.
It's been keeping me MIA from the lot too.

Anyway, my reading material has been rather eclectic and I've been taking a lot of notes for articles and such I want to right.

Tonight I was going over some of those notes in one particular area, and a question occured to me that I thought I'd share with all of you.

Now I want your gut response. I want to know what comes to your mind when you read the question. Serious, silly, thoughtful or sarcastic, I don't care. Just tell me what comes to mind, ok?

Here's the question:

Why did God create Adam and Eve as ADULTS? Remember, he was a rather hands on type of guy in those days and could have cared for them, and the first man and woman had dominion over the animals of the earth, so had nothing to fear from them. So why were they created as adults, rather than teens of child bearing ability?

Being me, I already have the answer of course, but give me your best shot anyway............GO!

alright, Sparks, I'm going to bed, so I got to the part where you asked for my gut reaction and stopped. I will come back tomorrow with bells on and finish reading then.

My first thought is... how do you know they weren't teens? I don't remember the Bible indicating how old they were or how mature when they were created. Maybe this is a joke or a riddle.
My next thought is that I think the creation story is true, but not necessarily an exact account of the beginning of the earth and humanity. In the interest of making it understandable to everyone and not too complicated and detailed, it is an allegory of basically what God did and intended and what was/is important to the mind and spirit of God.

myLot reputation of 84/100. sparkofinsanity (1870)   ranked 1 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

There is a theory in Catholic theology (and other religions) that in death we appear before God as we were in the prime of our lives but without pain, deformity, injury or disease, as He originally created us. That is why most people over the millenniums have assumed that God created Adam and Eve as adults in the prime of their lifetime.

myLot reputation of 94/100. Mcbuttero (848)   ranked 73 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

Yeah but if you go strictly Biblical it doesn't say we will appear "in our prime".... though I do think we will have very strong and healthy bodies without any defects. (lol yeah, I am popping all over your post here).... very interesting stuff though. You've "sparked" my attention and that's not an easy thing to do.

PS and as far as I'm concerned my prime was mid-late teens as far as the shape, energy, stamina, enjoyment, etc.

myLot reputation of 90/100. Angelwhispers (4588)   ranked 6 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

I have heard that theory all of my life as well. McButtero I agree it does not have a sound biblical base.

myLot reputation of 84/100. sparkofinsanity (1870)   ranked 1 out of 693 in messing with your mind  2 months ago

We have to remember here folks, that our bodies turn to dust after death. But our souls pass on into the presence of God - and our souls reflect the prime of our lives if we died as adults. I'm not sure how theology handles the souls of children though - do they stay child like? Rather makes me interested in life after death just to get the answers to so many questions. Takes the fear of being dead away.

Oh, that's a good one, Being me, I already have the answer of course, rasp

Even God, in all His wisdom had more sense than to create teenagers. He wanted the world to survive, not be destroyed! lol

Actually I have no clue, but I gave you what popped into my little pea brain. Glad you stopped reading and came back here happy

myLot reputation of 84/100. sparkofinsanity (1870)   ranked 1 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

Well done fwidman! You are very very close to the answer. Not spot on yet, but very close! LOL Trust a man to be the first to come within a stone's throw distance of the answer! LOL Thanks so much for the giggle of appreciation!

LOL! That was hiliarous! 'he wanted the world to survive, not be destroyed!' GOOD ONE! (as I chase down my kids for leaving the burners on the stove, leaving the door unlocked, letting a toddler get outside where there is an inground pool...)

LOL@ mommyboo. I rest my case rasp

Fwidman..not all teens are reckless...I at 5 was doing more things around the house than most people..at 10 had a job babysitting..at 14 took care of my younger sibs, my father and the household chores, cook and still went to school with a b average..so even though its funny..its how you were raised and the maturity about you..at 18 I was married and later had 5 children who are very good ones.

Sparky..this is for you...
So the story really is about Adam and Eve..but i don't feel Eve did anything wrong..and if she was 12 or 18 or what..it doesn't say in the Bible they had children right away after this so called episode..will write in my own post about this..so go on further in your discussion to see me

myLot reputation of 96/100. mommyboo (1385)   ranked 131 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

Hey Rose=) I was laughing about that in response to my OWN kids, but when I was a teen, I wasn't like that either. I agree that it does have something to do with your life experiences growing up and also your personality. A lot of teens are reckless and irresponsible because they aren't expected to be responsible and they don't have consequences each and every time they aren't.

myLot reputation of 90/100. Angelwhispers (4588)   ranked 6 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

At the age of 8, not only had I lost my innocence but was learning how to take care of 2 younger brothers cook and clean and felt like an adult in her 40's as well. No not all teenagers are rebellious irresponsible vandalizers. I raised 2 older boys so far and they were different than night and day, one was a good kid with a very good head on his shoulders who did well in all of his life situations, and then another who was charming, smart and a little hellion.

LMAO hopefully the third one coming up will be better than either of my first 2 LMAO a mother can hope!

Even in the days of my grand mother, children and teenagers were different, they had to be. My mother even was in the cotton fields before and after school. The livelihood of the entire family dictated that children be responsible and pull their share of the living. We can not compare biblical times to our modern day life styles. Its apples and oranges. (no pun intended!)

myLot reputation of 96/100. mommyboo (1385)   ranked 131 out of 693 in messing with your mind  2 months ago

Definitely that's true=) I think a happy medium is in order, fewer responsibilities than those heaped on 12 and 13 year olds back several thousand or even several hundred years ago, but definitely SOME responsibilities and expectations of respect, common sense, consideration for other people, care towards your own things and those belonging to others, etc.

I have been a caretaker since I was 9 and my mother died, my dad remarried but that one event shut the door on my childhood, from that point on I did everything I could to be independent, save for a rainy day, ensure I could survive without help because who's to say I wouldn't fall into another horrific situation like that? My dad was a mess, and I had a younger sister that I worried constantly about and I tried to take care of her as best I could. I still have a caretaker personality, among my friends I'm the one they call in a crisis. I do what I can, when I can and I rarely if ever find myself in a situation where I have to get help. I try to prevent it, relying on other people has always been something for me to get nervous about.

Oh Goodie, don't pout. I've been reading the lot too and you guys are just having way too much fun without me, so leaving you all to run the show was a wise move on my part! LOL As for Him being in a hurry to be a grand-dad, you've a good point there - but why not start them out as child bearing teen agers? He'd have got more grand kids that way..............

myLot reputation of 93/100. Goodie123 (7159)   ranked 2 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

Nah, he didnt want kids having kids.
He wanted grandkids that were going to be smart.
And well because he did, because Noah built an Ark and saved all those animals. ROFL

I thought Noah saved the animals to keep the kids out of trouble? LOL

myLot reputation of 67/100. amrishkj (237)  2 months ago

If he made teenagers to have kids then he would have had to take of the new born all the time and the universe would have turned upside down. now you would wonder why would he have to take care of the kids, that coz the teenagers as they are would want to have 5ex all the time with their hormones wanting to do it all day and night.

Imagine god having to change diapers, feed the baby, sing lullabies to make it sleep, what would the world be if he did all those things and the universe left unattended.

The aliens would then have had fights all the time....heeheeheeheee

good question and one that I have no idea to what the answer is. could it be so that they would be mature enough to be responsible parents? Maybe he didn't want a couple of deliquents vandalizing the garden? Do tell us the answer, sparks.

myLot reputation of 84/100. sparkofinsanity (1870)   ranked 1 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

"deliquents vandalizing the garden"...........good point. But HOW would they vandalize the garden?

myLot reputation of 96/100. mommyboo (1385)   ranked 131 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

Good point! It's not like they could run down to the local Lowe's and buy a bag full of spray paint to TAG all the trees and make handprints on the butts of all the animals they could trick into coming close enough=P

myLot reputation of 89/100. sid556 (4849)   ranked 112 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

i actually have no idea. just guessing around. Maybe because you have to be at least 18 to do things without parental consent and he didn't make them any parents?? oh and were they even married?

myLot reputation of 96/100. mommyboo (1385)   ranked 131 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

Who would have married them? God? LOL! Ok so at least they were technically adults but we don't know if they were married. Looks like the evidence against having to be 'grown up' or 'married' is leaking away as far as the correct point in time to have kids. Also, it's not like some judgemental folks say like 'make sure you finish your education first, buy a house, invest in stocks, be at least 30'. I wouldn't think that Adam and Eve did ANY of that. And God was PLEASED, therefore let's take the good stuff and stop reinventing the wheel over and over.

myLot reputation of 90/100. Angelwhispers (4588)   ranked 6 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

"And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living."

They were created it would seem married. Unless God performed a marriage ceremony after stealing Adams rib, and creating this most wonderful of all creatures:)) Adam sure knew what to call her. LMAO.

I'd like to know how God came up with the whole concept of conception through to birth, for animals and humans. I rather think His hatching from an egg process is the most efficient and painless! lol
Good thoughts there Angel and makes you realize that God really has a lot to answer for when we finally get the chance to 'see' Him.

Hey there! Hope you don't mind me hopping in here. You had a couple very interesting comments and while not a Biblical scholar or expert by any means...

just my take on it and several others I know from my church, including my Pastor is that they had to populate the earth in the beginning so yes it would have been close (very close) family members. But this was only the beginning of time... and yes, a short time later after the people had populated and spread out it was no longer necessary so God said, "That's enough of that".... well I guess it wasn't because otherwise we wouldn't have Jerry Springer.... but you know what I'm saying I think, lol.

PS... I don't think they had a belly button! lol

myLot reputation of 90/100. Angelwhispers (4588)   ranked 6 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

Hi there McButtero, yes that is the same theory I have always been taught. But again its a theory and one interjected by man. So much time we do not have account of and since becoming an adult and wanting to learn truth, and not childhood Sunday school stories I have come to the conclusion that we can not interject what we do not understand or do not have record of. It changes real principles.

Another point I would like to add, is that the translations of the bible we have today are misconstrued in many places and the real meaning of words are not what the original writings say. Then again we do not really know what the very first writings held as they are so long gone, the original books were copied one after the other by scribes who often made mistakes, or interpreted words to meet certian other agendas.

myLot reputation of 96/100. mommyboo (1385)   ranked 131 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

This brings to mind another interesting point. If they had no mother and thus fatherhood came first (if we go on the concept that God is male and the 'father' of Adam and Eve), then fathers would be slightly more important than mothers on the scale, even though no babies could be born without a mother unless conception, pregnancy, and birth did not happen the way it does.

myLot reputation of 90/100. Angelwhispers (4588)   ranked 6 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

MommyBoo, I don't believe that is true, except for God the Father. 1st Corinthians says dang I forget what chapter. "In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God."

There are many of Paul's teachings that have gotten misconstrued and used to keep women under subjection, when the truth is that God sees marriage as a partnership with man only in the Helm to teach, be an example of love, and provide as Christ provides and loves his "church". Anything less from a man is unacceptable.

i am probably shocking my lovely Sparks to death here... this discussion is uncharacteristic of me, but she has never asked either:)))

myLot reputation of 96/100. mommyboo (1385)   ranked 131 out of 693 in messing with your mind  3 months ago

I read an interesting poem once, oddly enough it was something that an old boyfriend's mom had hanging on her wall. Something about 'woman was created from man, from his rib which is near his heart. He is not meant to rule over her, he is meant to protect her, support her' I am probably losing the whole gist of it because my fuzzy brain doesn't remember 13 years ago. It pretty much mentioned that while woman came from man, it does not mean he's dominant nor should act in that manner. Of course I am taking that to mean in this day and age that if a man DOES act that way, you give him 2 chances and then kick him to the curb, but an actual decent man is not going to be a chauvinistic pig anyhow, at least not openly towards you if he loves you.

I do agree that men and women were expected to lean on each other, interdependent, not co-dependent nor completely independent. The way things have gotten, people have been forced to be independent instead, out of necessity or fear, and I can't say I blame them. As far as the co-dependent garbage, to me that is just a sign of no strength and giving up.

Yes!! From his rib which is near his heart, not from his heel for him to walk all over her! Now I need to go look up the poem=) I've no idea whose great plan was to make men somehow think they are superior, but that person needs to be hung. Men took that idea and ran with it, and look what happened to the world! LOL!

As far as Paul, he is lucky that I did not create the earth. If I had, he'd have been cast into hell immediately for his attitude towards women, and while he was visiting there for eternity, all the women he had wronged with his attitude would be able to parade by and insult him continuously. I'm sure he would be ready after a few thousand years of this torture to repent and take back everything he had ever said.

myLot reputation of 90/100. Angelwhispers (4588)   ranked 6 out of 693 in messing with your mind  2 months ago

Mommyboo, I actually think that Paul gets a bad rap. When you understand what it was like for the churches in his day, you begin to understand some of his struggles. If you want to do a little mild reading on the subject here is a link that is very informative. You might even decide to cut the poor Saint some slack. LMAO

We don't know their exact ages... they could have been late teens. Remember in the Bible people were considered adult at a very young age!

The other thought was God knows better than I do the reason for doing something... and doing it the right way, lol.

lol.... I'm sitting here giggling that you called me diplomatic. Drop the lomatic off and that's probably what HE would say. He's gotta be up there laughing at half the crazy stuff we think up. He's up there going, "That's not it! I know the answer and you don't!"

Add a neener neener in there and that's probably even closer. No disrespect either... I love and respect God completely. But seriously I believe he's got a good sense of humor... or he wouldn't have given me mine! Of course I'd rather be making him laugh that making him shake his head and wonder why he bothered with this whole "human" thing.

Hmmmm. Well, I suppose because back in those days, there was really no 'adolescence' period. Even as late as the depression era (1920ish), people were children (and should be seen and not heard) and then around 12 or 13 they were suddenly adults with all the responsibility of an adult piled on them. Just going back a few decades from there, people only lived to be mid 30s at the oldest, so there really was no time to insert that whole slice of 'teenhood'. I find it interesting too how many people will make nasty comments about teen parents yet Joseph and Mary (Jesus' parents) were little more than children themselves, probably estimated to be around 12 and 13 when he was born.

I may have to go back on this though because didn't they live hundreds of years in the bible? Now I'm not sure. This makes little sense if they did because the life spans were so short in the 1800s and life expectancy has only increased back up to the 70s and 80s recently with better healthcare and knowledge of disease and conditions and our bodies, and technology to extend life. So many things that do not make sense!

Teens know less and their brains are not actually finished, so perhaps he created adults so he would not have to answer 'are we there yet' and 'are you sure we're doing this right?' and 'WHATEVER DAD' 39485758 times before they had populated the earth.=D

Right, the only confirmed or known case of immaculate conception, unless you don't believe anything in the bible happened. What I mean by that though is that was the typical age, it's not like God looked around and decided to cripple Mary by making her pregnant. I am sure that most of the other couples having babies were the same general age, it was not out of the norm. At least I don't recall reading anything in there about 'ooooh, a CHILD is pregnant' and 'let's go stone her parents for allowing this to happen' or 'we better build an abortion clinic', you know, things that might not be far off base today when you think about fanatics and what they spout.
