 Over the years, we've all heard about the dangerous "mad cow" disease that plagued cow meat and the "bird flu" in chicken and pork in itself was a health problem anyway. i never thought I would have to worry about anything being wrong with vegetables until the recent "salmonella" scare of the Nation's tomato supply. It was always embedded in my mind that vegetables were the 'fail safe' food. Look at most vegetarians and how healthy they look? (Lol)All jokes aside, What can we eat now that wont make us sick? Are were out of options?

Your best bet is to grow as much of your own food as you can. Thataway, you control what goes in and on your veggies. Especially goes for raw veggies as they tend to be infected with whatnot. Bagged salad greens, yech! One woman, I heard, actually found a tiny frog in her bag of spinach!

You are right, just as our fellow "MyLotter" above suggested also, my best bet is to grow my own vegetables.

One must remember vegetables need plant food to grow and be better in production, that is where things go wrong,
What do you put on them, yes thats it, chicken poo, cow poo, well any form of poo.
So its always to wash your vegetables.

One of the best ways to fertilize veggies on the cheap is vermacomposting. Basically, that is composting with the help of earthworms. If your earthworms are grown/raised/hatched by caring individuals, your safe because you choose what to feed them. As I do this in an apartment, in a plastic bin with a lid, I don't feed them meat or milk products. It is a question of stink. Veggie scraps, paper, and coffee grounds compost with a minimum of stink. Another good food for earthworms is dead house plants or their spent leaves. | |
