The first gas station pened in 1895 in Bordeaux, France. The shop allowed drivers to park there overnight, offered repair services and would top up the tanks with oil and "motor spirits". Two years later, the first station opened in Brighton, England.
That was a knowledge I want to share, hope it's useful in those time where oil prices are rising up crazyly.

The first "gas powered" vehicle was invented 19 years earlier in 1876 by Nicolaus Otto and there only about two production models on the road and both of them were stuck in Germany because the only petrol station was in France which is about 355 miles away. I believe the price of gas in Iraq is still 15 cents a gallon if you don't mind going past a few Al Queda skirmishes to save money on a tank full.
