If an application require you to install it then do so, if not then you wont be needing it. I think it originally was a word in Indonesian or Malayan to call the bad coffee or something like that. Not completely sure about this, may be someone can confim it. Surely it has some relation with coffee as the java logo is often a cup of coffee.

ok going to very basic level, computer needs software to run. when you start computer OS is loaded into pc memory. OS is operating system.

now you run some software like IE to browse internet. IE is software and developed by programes in some language.

Language is the tool used to develope software. it is similar to english. the way we understand english computer understand code writted and complied in particular paltform

code written in windows is only understood by windows based pc and code written in unix can not be understood by windows pc.

c++, foxpro, dbase, pascal are example of language. such a was java is also a language.

I always thought it was another name for a new type of coffee like starbucks or something to do with coffee and cyber cafes. The new computer I have has this program called Java. I really still dont know though. I think it may have someting to do with reading other programs! I am really not that sure though if I do use it it must be automatic. oh java is software to allow you to use functional program it is recommended especially if you are using messenger, itunes and limewire!
