There have been some amazing people who have gone before us in history, those who have done wonderful things for our world, and those who have invented some amazing things too..those who are famous for a crime or an evil doing....if you could be someone from time gone by,a historical figure,or a person who played an important role in the development of mankind..or that someone who was famous for a crime...then who would you want to be????

I think that pretty much all the famous names had a hard time in one way or another, so I think I'll stick with being Little Miss Nobody if I may, and just pootle along doing my own thing.

If I really have to choose, then I think I'd like to be someone who's work continues to be developed today by people who're passionate about it, and it would have to be in a field that I'm interested in. I'd like to be someone who was able to make a difference to the way people live and think in some way, but I'm not coming up with any names this morning.

Like you Moo no names are springing to mind here either, but it would have to be someone who just quietly went about their busines and got on with something..I certainly wouldnt want to be anyone who was famous or renowned...but to have had a say in somthing that did good for the world in general..then yes.

It would have been fun to be a character from the centuries gone by,but there are so many that you could wish to be,that it would be evry hard to think of one individual one.Im thinking along the lines of Florence Nightingale here,or a similar figure in history. No way would I ever want to be a criminal from those days, the punishements were harsh and the jails were tough then.I will give it some more thought.

More than likely a bit of a toughie here with this question,as it would very much depend on whether you wanted to be a heroine of some kind,or just a person who did something for the world as a whole..or even someone rather infamous! But have another thing about it all, there were some great people in the history books, and im sure there is one there that may have been you in an earlier life!

Hard to imagine being that person...would I be them or me? I do like to think of knowing some great person, having chats with them or seeing how they did what they did, day to day. Winston Churchill is a big favorite. Fascinating to contemplate how different our world would be if he had died in, say, 1930. You speak of "before us" in history, but you and I remember his funeral, and hearing about him directly from our parents. I gather from your 1066 post that you find history fascinating, as do I. It is the rate of change in the past 200 years,(as opposed to the past 3,000 of history), ever accelerating, that really draws my attention. I fear sometimes it is like looking at a car wreck happening. Riveting, but... Here is what I find astonishing about the rate at which history is happening, human civilisation changing: When Winston Churchill was a young officer, he took part in a cavalry charge at Omduran. He was trained in fighting with a sword from horseback, in a way of fighting that went back unbroken through many generations to over 2,000 years ago. Then when he was Prime Minister in the 1950's, he had at his command a very different weapon - the atomic bomb. Imagine, in his one lifetime, he went from the weapon at his hand being a sword to being an atomic bomb! How could his mind adapt? The change was so great in that one lifetime, and accelerating more and more. No wonder humanity is having a hard time adjusting. To you younger Mylotters: Churchill was around while many of the adults you know were children or teens. You know these adults, so you're not that far removed - it's the very recent past, in terms of history. You're almost directly connected. So, the rate of change...can humanity handle it?

I was ten when Winston died, and although I cannot remember his death,I can remember him being very much revered. An interesting fact was his inability to handle money, his own personal finances were in a permanent state of chaos!his wife and childern adored him,and he was by all accounts a wonderful family man.Its quite strange to think that such an important figure in life had no control over his finances. But yes I agree he was an incredible man,and if you read some of his words, they send shivers through me..You talk of the adjustment that Winston had to cope with, but when you think of the adjustments we have had in our lifetime..and we will have more to cope with in the future, are you mentally equipped for them???...we have seen the world spin on its axis,we see endless war, poverty, strife, and greed. We have seen the `progress` that has taken place..but can this be called progress??..we have gone from where a child was a child, and now a child is an adult in disguise..we have a dog eat dog society and a world of very cruel calculation among many.As children we dreamt of `men on the moon` and now it has all been done...in fact so many things in life have now been `done`,that the world is in a perpetual state of boredom, searching for the next and the newest invention..when by looking a lot closer to home the happiness that they strive for is sitting under theri noses,if they chose to accept it as that...soory im waffling...
