Remember that before Windows XP Service Pack 2, xp was not that good either. You should also take note of the fact that after Microsoft officially retired windows xp last June 30, there will come a time when new softwares will no longer be compatible with XP - if Microsoft will no longer support xp, other software companies will eventually stop making softwares for xp and instead create programs for Vista. So either way, you would have to eventually shift to Vista anyway. I am multibooting on Linux, XP and Vista - because I know that one day I will have to abandon using xp too, the same way that I stopped using windows ME before. Operating systems evolve.
