Beans!  | |  I first soaked my beans overnight, (Black turtle and pinto Beans) I pulled out my trusty crockpot and cooked up some spicy beans. I added hot peppers I got from out of my garden. I also tossed in diced okra, carrots, celery, garlic, onions and from a roast I had cooked the day before a bit of beef fat along with slice of beef. NOt much beef, just enough to give it flavor. I let them cook all day yesterday. Today I have spicy beans. I don't use salt because my husband is on a low/no salt diet. Tonight we are having beans with rice. Yummy. How do you fix your beans???

 snowy22315 (5602) | 6 months ago |  We did eat beans almost every day growing up. My dad used to love them because they had them at home all the time when he was a kid. I dont make them very often,because whenever I go home for a visit they are always featured as a side dish.

Also bacon for the top this time I did not put in onions or bacon, but I hadnt made them for awhile and I forgot to put aluminum foil on the top. The beans dried out a bit unfortunately. They were still tasty, but dry. | |

| | | 3. deebomb (7738) | 6 months ago |  When I was growing up my grandmother would make the best beans. She would cook the white northern beans. Sometimes she would cook them with a ham hock and sometimes with nothing added but salt. I can't cook my beans nearly as good as hers were. When I would ask how she did it she always said it is getting the right amount of salt. I have to doctor mine up with some sage, thyme and oregano and sometimes some liquid smoke. They are good but like hers were. I don't eat pork any more so I use smoked turkey instead and they are pretty good that way. I always serve mine with corn bread with some cheddar cheese add to the mix before baking. My grandkids love it that way.

| yaksters (24) | 6 months ago | Grandmothers are the best at cooking. My grandmother came from Germany and everything she cooked had that German influence. I remember her German potato salad. When I was a teenager she came to visit. She made a turtle soup that was the bomb. It was the best soup I had ever had. She taught me a lot about cooking, but she never revealed to me many of her secrets. Or if she did, she told them to me in German. I don't speak German. Rats! | |
