Do You Remember Drive-In Movie Theaters?? |
|
When I was a kid drive-in movie theaters were the best. My parents would take me to one that had a really neat playground in the back of the theater's concession stand. I would change into my pajamas when the movie started and watch while I lounged with my pillow and blanket in the back seat. We usually either brought a picnic dinner or ate hotdogs, soda and popcorn from the concession stand. Years later, I actually got a job at that very same drive-in movie theater as a car hop. This was the person who took the money from the cars, made change and gave out tickets. I got to see all the movies for free too! Did you have a drive-in movie theater where you lived or is there one now? They seem to be making a comeback now and I only wish we had one near us.

prncesfrmheaven (122) | 6 months ago | It's only bad when its super hot outside. I live in the Valley and it is super hot and super humid so we don't go very often. They usually show 2 movies a night and it's cheap to get in so that's great.

wachit14 (3242) | 6 months ago | I'm not sure what drive-ins are charging right now, but they used to be cheaper than regular movies, until they began charging by the person. Then people would try to cheat the system by hiding in the trunk of the car, but they always got busted.

5. jasyjen (109) | 6 months ago | Oh wow! Your post filled my heart with nostalgia! Drive in theaters were THE BEST!!! I loved going in my PJ's as a kid, chilling with a pillow and blanket. Just like you! I'd love it if they'd make a comeback. My kids would really enjoy it.

wachit14 (3242) | 6 months ago | Luckily the drive-in wasn't torn down until after both my kids were a little older. They both got to experience the thrill of being at a drive-in movie in the summer time. We saw some cool summer flicks under the stars. Nice memories.

6. sudalunts (3154) | 6 months ago | Wow, drive in movies, yes. I remember just like you bringing your jammies and playing in the playground before the movie started. The playground was in front of the screen. My parents would drive in checking the speakers to make sure the sound was working. Later on, we moved and was living on the same block of the drive in. We could not see the film from our house but we could hear the sound. When my brother was a teen, he got a job at the drive in, that allowed us to go in for free. By being teenagers we did not have a car, so we would walk in and sit in the outdoor patio. Boy, the mosquitos would bite and bite and bite. We got all the popcorn we could eat free, and if we brought our own container we could fill up on soft drinks. By liviing so close, we would see car full of people drive by, stop their car and maybe two or three people would get in the trunk, so they wouldn't have to pay. I do not think I would have wanted to do that. What is the trunk door got stuck and you couldn't get out. Great discussion, thanks for the memories.

wachit14 (3242) | 6 months ago | We always knew when people came in with their trunk full of friends. There would be one person in the car and the back of the car would be so low to the ground. We would just ask them to pop the trunk and sure enough, out came more people. If they weren't caught at the cashier booth, they were caught in the field by one of the staff.

7. howard96h (5435) | 6 months ago | I remember when the drive-in had those poles with the speaker attached and you had to park next to one and hang the speaker onto your window to hear the movie, that was way before you could listen to the movie on your cars radio. What great times the drive-in theaters were. I miss them.

8. laglen (2075) | 6 months ago | I loved the drive ins when I was a kid. About two years ago, we found one about 40 minutes from our home. It is $5 per person, and you get two movies. Plus you can see the other screen and change the radio station, you can watch two others at the same time. So we try to go as often as possible. We will pack a yummy dinner and go. They even play new movies, that just come out.

10. overwings (2385) | 6 months ago | Sounds nice but all these are unknown memories to me as I have never been or even having seen a drive in theater. The closest to that was a "walk in" cinema, in summer of course where people even had to bring their own chair. Things like that don't exist any more. If there are ever proyections on the open air normally everything is more fitted for the public.
