Would you publish your own book? |
|
I have noticed sites and publishing company's who advertise publishing your own books. You can order a certain amount of copies and they will publish them for you. Then you have to sell your own books. Would you be willing to sell your books this way? If you did where and how would you try and sell them?

2. qiao522 (100) | 2 months ago | If I did write a book,I will, but I didn't. I enjoy diaries which always make me feel true about myself. There are different things happened each day, good or bad, happy or depressed. And the most wonderful thing is to read it over.

| 4. Aussiepup113 (49) | 2 months ago | I did self-publish two books a while ago through a publisher that was just starting out. I was able to publish them for free and they also placed them on all the big sites like Amazon for me. I was really lucky to do this as now that site charges for the very same service I got for free. You can see my books at my website that is listed on my profile. I did alot of PR over the internet and through mailings for my books and did sell quite a few. I'm not the type to go from place to place pushing my book, so internet selling worked for me. If I ever have time to finish another book I would think about self-publishing again if I can't sell it the traditional way. You can check out the publisher I used at Xlibris.com (No, I don't get any money for promoting them.)

6. patgalca (5063) | 2 months ago | Self-publishing would be my last resort. I really don't have the time, energy or capabilities to do marketing. Some book publishers that publish on demand WILL do marketing. I would rather find an agent and go from there. If I can't get an agent I will go directly to publishers. The best thing is to have a contact. I know someone who is a published author many times over, and she did give me the name of her agent. I have also had the opportunity to meet agents through workshops and such. If ALL agents and publishers reject my book then it's probably for good reason. That is why I am doing a 7th edit on my novel. I want my book to be the best it can be before I submit it to agents and publishers. I would prefer to have an agent who would do all the leg work. Yes, I would still have to make appearances at bookstores and such but that is just something you do. The agent makes the arrangements for that, I don't think I have the guts to approach book stores, except for our local independent book store here in town. However, if I wrote a book of poetry I would probably self-publish. Poetry is not a big seller so publishers and agents aren't too big on them.

meggan79 (447) | 2 months ago | Thanks for the response. It is always good to have a contact, best way to get your foot in the door. I noticed you don't see to many poetry books on the shelf, think cause it is so easily to share them online.

7. mcat19 (551) | 2 months ago | My book, Cat-House Sonnets, 100 poems celebrating cats, was published by Jorlan Publishing. You can check it out at their website: www.jorlanpublishing.com/Cat-HouseSonnets.htm. . I paid to have it published. It was the best experience I have ever had. I was just thrilled to hold my own book in my own 2 hands. Jorlan took care of everything: Designed the cover, designed the interior, gave advice, got the ISBN, put it on Amazon. My book has won the Muse Medallion from Cat Writers' Association and Best Poet from Preditors & Editors. I promote it mostly online, but I do have a t-shirt that says "Ask me about my book." I have sold some at cat shows, too.

8. Xdrowninghavocx (2926) | 2 months ago | I don't have a book right now, but hopefully in the next ten years or so. I wouldn't mind do this because that way you don't have to worry about agent costs. I'm always up for bohemian-esque ways to do things, lol. This is certainly a way to cut back costs of advertisements and such.

meggan79 (447) | 2 months ago | That is what I was thinking. If you fail not to many people would be observant to it. Then again, I wouldn't want family and friends to think they had to buy a book.
