Why do they put nutrition information on candy wrappers?

I think here they put it on because its "food" that people eat and its required by law to have the nutritional information and ingredients listed on the package. Its kind of silly for some things but really interesting to see how many calories something like a single Starburst is (120 calories for 1 last time i read the pack)

One reason they put the ingredients is that nowadays even if sugar is high on the list, many manufacturers are putting other fancy words such a sucralose or neotame toward the end of the list and these are artificial sweeteners which are bad enough when used alone, but when combined with several kinds of sugar or other scary artificial sweeteners might end up being worse for us that embalming fluid.

Unfortunately some people do not know that! Some people do not know that peanut butter might have residue from peanuts in it. They could bite into the candy bar and die. But truly I wonder how they would know whether it was the peanuts that killed them or the sucralose. It would be nice if what we were encouraged to eat by the food manufacturers and ad people were food. Generally it is not. I think it is good to have the labels, but I do agree that they information presented in them is often a bit silly.

I have never even read the nutritional information on candy/lolly wrappers, except to do my bit for the orangutans by ensuring they don't contain palm oil. I read the information on actual food packets but don't see the point on candy wrappers since I already know they have no nutritional value when I buy them. I already know they are bad for me without reading about all the colours, chemicals and preservatives and I'm sure the manufacturers would not include this information if they weren't required to by law.

hi gitfiddleplayer yes its really silly the stuff they put on candy wrappers as if we didnt all know its mostly sugar in
the first place now if they would put on there how many grams of sugar per piece that would help us diabetics wholook for a sugar source when we have low blood sugar. lol.

The FDA says so, that's why.

Did you know snickers was manufactured in a plant that uses peanuts?

I figure so its more convienent for the person consuming the candy.

I really think it's just because of regulations and stuff. They pretty much have to put it on any food product that people are going to consume. It might also be because some people have food allergies, and if this wasn't listed, someone might eat something that they were allergic to and either get sick or die. That's my best guess anyway.. LOL I know that most people probably don't look at the info anyway, but I usually look at the nutritional info and stuff, just because I'm interested in that stuff. LOL

I think it's probably some way to halfway protect a company from being sued--even though it seems that, if people are determined to sue a company, they're going to find a reason to do so anyway.

Something I'm wondering is why there are so many dangerous allergies in place now.

Back when I was in school, nobody I know of ever got sick or died because peanut residue was somewhere in the air...but that's another story...

i'm sure it's required by some goverment office or they wouldn't go to the trouble or the expense to do it. don't u think?
