Dead at 17

They are hanging in there. What's really bad is that my Mom's friends' wife just lost her sister last week also. I can't imagine what she's feeling right now. It's a truly sad situation.

It's always sad when you hear about someone dying, but when it's a child that's around the same age as your own it really hits home. Makes you understand just how short life is and that you should make the most of it.

Me too. I know it's going to be hard for them. It's amazing how quickly someone can be taken. He was fine yesterday and then woke up this morning to this. So sad.

That is very nice of you. I'm sure they can use all the prayers they can get. It has to be so hard, especially since he is still with them in a sense because he's on life support right now until they harvest his organs.

Any time someone loses a child it's hard,no matter what age the child is. Death is hard for all of us know matter who dies, but it is especially sad when children are taken so early.

I know what you mean. I handle death pretty well, as well as anyone can. My husband says I'm very strong even though I don't see it. I do know that when my Dad died I held the family together just because that's my "role". But I think I would literally fall apart if anything happened to my husband or son. I hope I never have to deal with the loss of either one of them.

I hope you don't either. It would be difficult, that's for sure. Let's just both hope it doesn't happen for either one of us.

Hope and pray that it doesn't happen to us or anyone else. I wish noone had to outlive their children.

Outliving your children does sound like an impossible task. Yet, people make it through and many show enormous strength and resilience through such an ordeal. I hope your mom's friend finds her way through it all.

Hopefully, she'll turn to a counselor for assistance if she feels she needs it. It can be very helpful to work with a counselor when something so tragic occurs.

They are all doing as well as can be expected. The family is sticking together which helps alot.

Yeah. They took him to the doctor. You wouldn't expect someone to die from an infection unless they were in the hospital. Then you'd know it was really serious. But with him home it was shocking.

My Mom said they will be having the funeral some time after Friday. They are giving the doctors time to get the organ donations done and for family to arrive. I hope they have lots of family around right now.

I'm so sorry to hear about your son's friend. My son will be 17 in October and I can't imagine him no longer being here. It's truly a terrible thing they are going through.
