Did you hire a lawyer or do it yourself?

I have no experience about this but I had friends who also hired a lawyer during their divorced..
One of them didn't want to since he knows it will just take longer and it is very expensive too...He talked to his ex about it and the arrangement they are going to have and suddenly, the wife got a lawyer and he ended up paying it..LOL!

I hired a lawyer for my divorce and got taken to the cleaners. I found him in the phone book and just jumped to hire him. Here he is telling me that I should just give up my kids to my ex wife, not to 'worry' about the money she took (stole) from my account and that it would be just to give her the house! I thought: who's side are you on! I got a much better lawyer for the custody battle and ended up winning of most of what I wanted. She ran out of cash before I did and I got to go in with a lawyer while she did not have one. I personally can't stand lawyers but I know they have their place in society.

I hired a lawyer for my divorce and it was about $2000. I paid for it because I was the one that wanted the divorce. My lawyer was awesome and very thorough. I used him for my bankruptcy also.

I would say like most legal situations, if you are comfortable enough with the interpretation of the law you may be able to do it yourself. The reason that most people end up hiring a lawyer is because the two people can't agree on whats legally theres or what they are legally entitled to. If the two people are in total agreement then there is no reason that the you can't file the uncontested forms or whatever your state requires and wait the time if your state calls for that.

I did my own and don't regret it a bit. I knew what I wanted and I am a very fair person so I knew if my ex argued that he'd be shot down. I was very very nervous because a public speaker, I'm not. It all went well and the judge told me afterwards that no lawyer could ever have expressed my feelings as I did. Every situation is different and in some, I would not reccomend going in without someone to back you. It all depends on who you are dealing with.

I divorced myself. I cost a whole lot less, and took less time, actually 6 months.
If you follow the instructions and in order there should be no problem. I was rather nervous the day before I had to got to court. I rehearsed with my aunt all day. When the day came, I took a deep breath and did what I had to do.

I divorced myself pro se, it was much cheaper and quicker. It took a total of six months. It was very simple, there is a step by step process and as long as you follow the steps in the correct order it happens very smoothly.
