Saying Goodbye to mmy old friend tomorrow |
|
The vet is coming tomorrow to put my dog to sleep. He's been with me for 16 years of my life, and I know in my heart it is time, but I am so sad and so scared. He's been such a good friend, and loyal companion, I couldn't even sleep last night. Today, we are going to go for one more little hike in the woods,as far as he can make it, and a car ride, which he loves. I'm going to share some ice cream with him, and make our last full day together as fun as I can, but I am so sick to my stomach about losing him. I don't know how to say goodbye!

1. LadyAbboz (196) | 3 months ago | I know what it's like to lose a pet, we had a cat for about 10 years and she was older than me! But they had to have her put down at the vets. It is a sad thing, but if there is a good reason then it may be for the best. In terms of saying goodbye, I would say that what you already have planned is a great idea, just make sure he knows you love him an that'll be enough.

2. palonghorn (2886) | 3 months ago | That's never easy, letting go, I had a golden retriever that was with us for 14 years, she passed away with her head in my lap. But, it sounds like he'll have a wonderful last day with you. And since you stated that you know it's time in your heart, then you'll be okay. Just think of all the wonderful things you two have shared. And it sounds like he's had a very full and wonderful life with you. And remember.....All dogs go to Heaven! As for saying goodbye, hug him, kiss him on the head and tell him you love him, but I think he already knows that.

cassidy22 (2671) | 3 months ago | It is hard to let go. I asked the vet, why would God be so nice to give us dogs, man's best friend, but only let us have them for such a short time. It doens't seem fair to have to say goodbye. I'm sorry for the loss of your dog, but she was loved.

3. patriciaqualls (1138) | 3 months ago | I am so sorry to hear about your dog. I know how loving and loyal and what a best friend he is to you. We had to put my dog Margret down. She was 12 I still miss her to this day and that was 20 years ago. I feel your pain. It is very hard to say goodbye. But I know you have good memories with him. And at least you get to say goodbye. I didn't get to say goodbye to Margret before my dad took her to the vet. She was very ill. My dad thought it was better that we weren't there. I still wish I had the chance to hug her one last time before he did that. I wish you the best. Take care! Trish

6. RLFinNash (5750) | 3 months ago | hello cassidy i am sitting here in tears right now trying to type out this response to your discussion about having to loose your dear friend for life. i know how that goes, i have a dog as well, and she is like one of the family members as far as i am concerned about her. it is going to be a sad day around here as well when Doughnut passes away. and what good plans that you have today for yourself and your dog. spoil your dog rotten today! he deserves it and so do you. and as far as making it through to tomorrow, all that you can do about that is take it one day at a time. maybe you can go out and purchase yourself a new companion. i know that the new dog will not be anything like your dog is that you have right now, but maybe one day it will be like it is now. (hugs) have a beautiful day today with your dog.

7. muscles4me (1210) | 3 months ago | I feel like cring hearin this. My dog Buddy was my best friend for almost 18 years when i had to put her down. There was no other way but I partly blame myself as she fell of my balcony. I should have been out there with her. I loved that dog. Its been 2 years and I still miss her everyday.

8. jenseyedea (282) | 3 months ago | I am so sorry for you, and your beloved pet. I know that this is hard on you, and it will be hard on you for a while I would guess. But sometimes we have to do things for our animals, out of love. I pray that you can find peace during this time, and cherish your friend. I believe you do know how to say goodbye, with the same love and kindness you have shown him all the years you have known him. Blessings to you and your friend.

9. Grandmaof2 (2979) | 3 months ago | All I can say is Been There and Done That. Therefore I can feel for you. I do know your pain and it hurts real bad. When we want animals we know that one day we will be faced with this BUT there is nothing worse than having to put an animal to sleep. The best you can do is know you're doing the right thing for the dog. I have my Maltese and when it's time again I think this one will nearly kill me. You've had 16 good years and the dog has lived a good life but none of that is going to make you feel better now. It sucks plain and simple. I'm sorry dear.

10. Debs_place (5639) | 3 months ago | Now you have me sitting here crying. I have had to do this twice before. My first dog had cancer and I had to put her down at 7 1/2, my next dog was 7, his liver had disappeared. After the first dog was put down I cried for 2 weeks, when my ex-husband moved out 2 years later, I never missed a beat. I have 2 dogs now, one 12 and one 9 1/2, I know that within the next year or 2 the older one will have to face the same fate. The younger one may have a bit longer but when we got him we were told he would not live to be a year old, he has a bad heart. He is definitely slowing down and with him we don't know. I feel so bad for you, and wish I could do something or say something to make you feel better but I can't. I am sorry.
