is it good to keep divorce secret from children?

Well I don't think so..we should explain the situation in a proper way to them.I think parent should tell the truth to their children in order to not hurting their feelings later.cheers..

Separating couples don't need to give the real details as if they're old enough to understand things that complicated.

Some couples the have children and decided to get a divorce, after considering every option that they could work out with to maintain the family, would either explain it to their children with word that they can easily understand like, "Ma just needs time for herself and Pa also needs his time as well.." but, its really a difficult thing to explain why the child goes to one parent and not both like they use to..

Conceal it kind words but, not totally hide the fact which may be more devastating for them once they find out on their own..

I really can't see any situation where it would be anything other than damaging to pretend everything is okay to the children.

children aren't stupid, and can tell when a relationship is breaking down. lying to them and pretending it's not will only confuse them, and shake thier faith in their parents honesty them.

far better to tell them that yes, the relationship is coming to an end, as it sometimes does with mums and dads, sometimes people fall in love, and sometimes they fall out of love, but love between mums and their children and dads and their children is very special, and nothing can make them stop loving each other, so they don't need to feel afraid that mummy or daddy might stop loving them.

they need to understand that both parents will always be there for them, and always love them, but that it would be better for them to be apart and happy rather than together and sad.


keeping it a secret will always do more harm than good. it breaks the bond of trust between a parent and child.

I should agree that, Telling the truth or hiding the truth depends on the age of your son/daughter. If they really understand what is happening around then you can tell them the truth because you cannot hide the truth for long time. So a parent know about their kid rather than anyone so its them to decide. Thank you for bringing the nice discussion

For me, I think it would better to keep it as a secret until the children have reached a suitable age for them to know what is going on..
Because if the children knows about the truth, they will suffer mentally and they will also be troubled by the fact that why other children have both father and mother but he only has one of them..
Also, they might be afraid that they will be looked down and tease by other childrens in the same school and will reject going to the school...
Hence, I think that it is better to just tell them that their mother/father is going overseas for work until they grow older..

No matter how old the children are, they are going to notice that their parents don't live together anymore. Personally, I think it is better to let children know that Mummy and Daddy are going to be living in separate places but that they both love the children and always will. I don't think there is ever a need to give children the gory details of WHY the separation is happening.

I have no personal experienced about this nor any close friends of mine..But, for me, Cases as this should not be kept from the children...They have to know the reality not unless we are talking about infant..

Explaining to them in a way that it is not very painful...Just with their level..I know it will be hard since they will not use to see their Dad or Mom but in the long run, they will adopt the changes. They just need a a parent who is there always to answer their question and to comfort them..
