Will computers make handwriting a lost art in future?

hi dear interesting question
today if you can and wish preserve the handwriting of your near and dear ones. yes i can foresee.
the voice overs are also important .
but sooner or later the hand writing, yes i seem to have not written a thing for the last many days!!!

and with all the work being performed electronically there is a real danger!!!

I never had good penmanship to start with, and I'm old enough to have used pen and paper most of my life. I'm lucky to get speed OR quality.;)

Having said that, I write semi-professionally, and despite it all being done at a keyboard, I usually have several notebooks I jot things in.

Absolutely writing is a lost art. Its a given in todays society. Its going to happen no matter what we do. I wrote a 300 page novel (not published) I wrote it all out with pen and paper and there is no doubt the words flow better that way. Its just that it seems the computer is so much easier because everything is right at your fingertips. Its definately more of a robotic finish because it just seems the words dont come out as well. I hope to get the patience one day to once again pick up my pen and do some more writing

i think computers will replace the hand writing in the future. i have read a science fiction about that. i have got a worst hand writing but still i like hand writing. anyway have happy my lotting. best of luck.

I think it's almost lost now. On the rare occasion I have to write something out, my hands actually hurt because I'm not used to it anymore.

Oddly enough I blame the computer for my now bad handwriting. When I was in school I had good cursev and printed handwriting. In high school when I was learning drafting I learned to make all my letters and number clear and 1/8 of an inch high. Today after working on the computer for so many years, I'm lucky if I can keep my print handwriting one size and my cursev egades I can barely write my own name anymore on cc receipts. The pencil or pen feels ackward in my fingers now when it use to feel comfortable.

I think we are in the middle of losing the art of handwriting now. In 20 years we will be more familiar with a keyboard then a pen or pencil.

Hi mathewsir, I have never had good handwriting because of my arthritis and Raynaud's so the computer is great for people like me that have a hard time writing. For those with lovely hand writing I hope that it does not become a lost art!

It's a worrisome subject, but I'm hopeful that writing will continue... in writers, if nothing else. Lots of us love the feel of writing on paper, even if/when typing on a computer might be faster. I think it's very important that people remember to write, because obviously computers won't always be there for us to type everything with.

I don't think so. There will always be individuals who are dedicated to practicing their handwriting. My handwriting, for example, is really bad, but I know how to change it when I need to. I do like typing on the computer instead, but most of my ideas I write down are on paper.

I never had that good handwriting even before computers, and it was made worse when I fell down the bottom two steps of my basement stairs (that have a seven inch rise) and broke my left wrist. Since I am left handed, my wrist was in a cast, they fixed me up, but now I cannot write as good as I could before on my worse day. Once my hand gets tired, then you cannot read my writing.
And my arm aches. I cannot write as fast as I used to. So I cannot lose what I never had.
