 Not to be out done by my mate catfish57,
I had to post a picture id some fish I pulled out of Bass Strait, Tasmania. (Bass Strait is the water that runs between Australia and Tasmania) Has been classed as some of the most unpredictable water anywhere.
But back to the fish, in the photo at two Pike's I caught on a trawl line.
Pike live in seaweed and pop out to feed, (most weighed in at around 3lb.)
Nice fish to eat. Shallow pan in butter. fillet or darne cuts.
This photo was taken about 20 years ago, I use to go out fishing for 10 days with 10 men.
We would pull into the many little islands around the coast to camp and sleep.
These were barren Island and no one lived on them.
We would fish our way down to Finders Island, pick up Ice and beer and then Fish our way back to the main land Australia.

as you just dont seem to find pike in the stores much.they do catch them in the dorys they go out in down on newport beach and we used to buy fresh pike there and it was so good and so easy to cook. now days they try to sellyou shark which I really do not like and other fish that are not pike.That soundslike a lot of fun you men must have had getting together and fishing for

We just used to fish the farm ponds.
I have never had pike. My husband has and says they are good.

That must have been great fun. Even recalling it could be fun. I would love to just stroll there, not fishing etc. I don't go fishing neither drink beer. But I a long walk to those islands with a pack of my cigarettes and nothing else to carry with me or do would be a great idea. Just lying down near the water and watch others fishing..may be

There is no competition who is better or who caught bigger, My best was 7lbs, one day the big daddy of them will get on the line for me, haha
And like you i do enjoy fishing, sad I dont get a chance these days to do it, but I love blue water and river fishing.
I do miss it, one day i will get a chance to go again,
I enjoy sharing with you and and also seeing the photo's.

I look at the point and they dont seem to be growing.

| hiccup (4722) | 3 months ago | The sea got up and we had to hide behind the islands so as not to get in the storm.
All the bait was of fish we caught, catch them and maybe the not so suitable just use them as bait or burly.
It depends where and when you fish to what you might catch.
Around the rocks you will catch the parrot fish and blue noes,, these are a soft type fish, eat in the day, use for soup and patties,
Over weed would be the whiting, pike, garfish,
In open water sea trout, shark, couta, tuna,rays, bream.
Flathead and Garnet are everywhere,
Some of them feed on the bottom other at the top.
We would fish all day and at dusk we would clean, then open the chiller box (full of crshed ice) and pack the fish into it.
At the end of the trip we would have maybe a 1/2 a gar bag full of fish each,
What we did was to fillet everything, due to space.
So what may seem not much fish was infact all fish and lots of it.
But that was our trip for the year, all the fish was for our table at home.

Different not skinny, but I know what you are saying.
Those i was holding up would have been about 2lb (1kg)each
This fish is a very nice fish for the plate,

We are not too much into fishing, but went with some of our friends once for a weekend. We had a great time:) The fun part was that in the first day nobody caught anything except hubby that fell asleep while holding the fishing rod LOL
