 many people when the pc starts to work very slowly, they want to format the HDD, but its not really good way to repair the problem.I can advice you (as a 7 years specialist) do not format than often, there are many ways to resolve this problem, and Ill present one of them.
1. empty the temp folders (C:/windows/temp and c:/document and settings/USER_NAME/local settings/temp )
2.deleting internet temp files and cookies
3.scan HDD and defragment (first scan HDD right click with mouse on the C and properties then tools)
after all you done enter www.khaarsen.com and programs section, there you can find 2 programs for clean and repair register errors. (please click on the banner to support my site)

1.  ralph12345abc (404) | 4 weeks ago |  Yeah thanks bro.I do whatever is mentioned here but still I have a problem ny svchost.exe file is corrupted by a graphic driver from HP it had virus and even if I download it again and scan I can find the virus.Please tell me what to do.I usually format the system to get rid of this if my antivirus cannot delete that file.I use Mcafee Total Protection 2008 for scanning.

AS i m a software professional i dont format my HDD so easily. i know most of the methods to increase speed of my PC. I tried one registry booster to increase speed and to repair register errors but that didnt work for me.

-don't allow all programs to startup automatically during startup
In the run window type "msconfig",and select the startup tab.there you'll find all the programs that startup automatically during startup,and that slows down the pc during startup.only allow your antivirus to startup.all other programs you can start them manually when you need to use them.
e.g messenger,don't allow it to stast automatically.start it manually.
if you want all your programs to startup without slowing down your pc,make sure you have lots of RAM in your pc.

| 6. kazejohns (8) | 4 weeks ago |  Hello, I'm a computer technician and I truly agree with Arsench, when your computer slows down, try to ask for advice from forums regarding your problem. They are really easy to follow specially registry tweaks. for me, Virus is not a problem, I usually delete them without using any anti-viruses because I already know where they are found and what their filename is.like a patient, check first the symptoms before you proceed to a better solution.

| 7. mirage108 (2485) | 4 weeks ago |  I have never done that I have always cleared temp files, ran chkdsk and if need be chkdsk/f/r and reboot then the defrag etc takes a lot less time than a reformat, and reinstall. Unfortunatly a lot of people dont know the steps to take when the system becomes slow.
