When and how did you learn to drive?... |
|
I learned how to drive when i was 29 years old... quite a late age... but i don't think i would be compelled to if i did not work abroad... where not knowing how to drive means riding the bus all the time just to get to work... so i was forced to learn... and a co-worker who was my suppose to be friend (long story) thought me how to drive an automatic van... Now that i am in the Philippines... where i do not have a car and public transportation is available in different forms (Jeepneys, Bus, Taxi, Tricycle)... a person do not really need to drive... but my father just bought an automatic van... and my interest in driving sparked again... so i got myself a student's driver's license... and just last Sunday... with my brother... i tried driving after 3 years of not being behind the wheel... I must admit that it was very interesting... that i did not forget any of the do's and don'ts i learned years ago... and great that i can drive again... so... do drive?... when and how did learn to?...

2. sisco100 (855) | 4 weeks ago | well i was 18 when i first learned to drive, i went throught driver ed class and after tht i had to complete like 34 hours of driving. i have to say tht learning how to drive requires no skill certinly in a automatic, i end up learing how to drive a manual car cuz it looked like more of a challenge. to this day i wont drive an automatic unless i have to. i perfer driving a manual cuz it gives me something more to do and tht it makes me more alert of whts going around me and wht i'm doing.

aseretdd (3474) | 4 weeks ago | I also know how to drive a manual car... but i prefer automatic since i can concentrate more on the road than the gear of the car... maybe if all drivers in my country are more responsible and giving... i would drive a manual car more that automatic... thanks for the response...

3. everlasting (8857) | 4 weeks ago | I learned to drive in my first job. My boss told me to learn how to drive all the vehicles in that company so that whenever the drivers are all occupied, i can drive it myself. I even drove trucks! I seldom do it now because of the traffic and the lrt is near to us.

5. gr8life (2586) | 4 weeks ago | Hello aseretdd, I learned how to drive when I was 25 years old. It is quite late too since most start to learn when they reached the age of 18. I got a job offer with Auto Bavaria which sells BMW cars and amazingly, I didn't know how to drive when I accepted the job. Only my boss and I knew the truth*smiles* Still, I didn't learn how to drive but a month before resigning from the job, I went to a driving school and registered my name. I told the instructor that I need my license within a fortnight. I knew that I am going to be jobless after that so I just want to get everything done faster. I missed a lot of opportunities while working with the automotive company. There were so many BMW cars with different models and I couldn't even drive one! I always had someone or a company driver to send me for my monthly meeting at our HQ. I even accompanied my staff to drive back a red Z3 roadster when they promoted the film 'James Bond' here. (James Bond drove that Z3 in the movie...) I sat for a road test after a fortnight and I remember clearly what the driving instructor told me a day before the test. We had a trial road test and he told me honestly, "I think you can drive but if you panicked a bit, then gone your driving license!" He was right. I failed my parking test as I couldn't moved the car (I didn't pull down the handbrake!) and when I did move, I hit the pole. I got mine after the second test. I can drive a manual and auto car, but I prefer to drive a manual car unless during peak hours.

aseretdd (3474) | 4 weeks ago | It must have been quite frustrating being surrounded by great cars... but cannot even drive one... well at least now you know how to drive... i also failed my first actual driver's test... i aced the written part... but when i drove with the evaluator... he told me that my problem is that i cannot maintain a certain speed... so he told me to practice more... which i did... and so i got my license in my second try... thanks for the response...

6. coffeeshot (1988) | 4 weeks ago | It took me a while..I was 21 when I finally got my license. I failed the first driving test but got it the second time. I got a nasty old man who likes to fail everyone. My driving teacher told me this. Luckily the second time around, i was more relaxed and the testing guy was nice and easy going. I was so excited when I got it!

aseretdd (3474) | 4 weeks ago | That is a young and good age to get a drive's license... and you are not the only one to fail the first time... i only passed during my second try... i think passing the test depends a lot on the person evaluating the student... thanks for the response...

aseretdd (3474) | 4 weeks ago | With the current price of oil use for cars... a lot of people would rather use public utility vehicles... rather than drive to their destination... i want to get my driver's license... because i will need it for my future career plan... and i am sure that when your kids are already professionals... they will buy you your own car with its own driver... and that would be neat... thanks for the response...

10. marababe (1395) | 4 weeks ago | I learned to drive when I was 17. My parents enrolled me in a driving school near our house. I think the car that was used was a brand new Toyota Corolla. I finished the course and everything but I was not able to use it afterwards. My parents didn't buy me a car and then my dad died after 2 years. So, our budget really didn't allow my mom to buy me one even a second hand car.
