Do You Sometimes Feel That Love Is Ironic?

The reason I'm asking this is because of my aunt. You see, my aunt is a spinster. She's 56 and she never married. She has had her share of relationships in the past, yes, but sadly she allowed love for family prevail that's why as she says, she let her one true love get away.

I thought it over and came to a very sad realization. Yes, it is possible that throughout our lifetime, many lovers will come and go. Many will walk in and out of our lies, some staying for just a moment while some stay for years. But through it all, there's that one great love, that one person with that one smile, one kiss, one caress that we wish would stay forever. That one person we would never want to replace in our hearts. Usually though, and sadly, that same person is the one that got away.

I guess that's why my aunt never married. Because she knew that having once found her one great love and then eventually letting him go, she'll never fall in love that same way again. And I guess, that's one of the saddest and painful ironies of falling in love.
