Why was Lilith removed from the bible? |
|
I know most people say she was never in there to begin with, but in truth she is mentioned in the old latin version of the bible (My family has one that's well over 200 years old that I started translating and reading, she is in it) but she has been removed from the newer translations, why is that? She was not a demon, she was a woman when made, she was cast out because she would not follow Adam's orders since she was made from the same clay he was she saw herself as equal to Adam, which she was, and she was cast into exile due to it. So why is such a strong and independant character not mentioned in the newer bibles when she was in fact in the older texts?

victoriasparda (103) | 5 months ago | Family heirloom, it's been passed down in our family for over 200 years (I said 200, not 2000, how my family first got it I don't know but I know they have the old thing) they've had it since my family first came to America, none of us know how they got their hands on it in the first place.

victoriasparda (103) | 5 months ago | With te dead sea scrolls, I still don't think they've found the all. But there are so many versions of the bible it's insane, who knows what's been added or removed and all that. I've heard rumors of other older version of the bible haveing Lilith in them but have yet to confirm them because they are hard to find (We still suspect that my ansestors took the one my family has from a french catholic church before they traveled the the USA) back then very few copies of anything were made due to the time it took to made them......... Man I wish lived near them to take photos of the pages (as they wouldn't survive a scanner) to show others....... Maybe someone added her in this version? But it's strange she's in one version but not the others..........The whole Lilith thing is such a mystery.

victoriasparda (103) | 5 months ago | Yes, before Eve, was created from the clay just as Adam was. Many myths have made her out to be a demon but she started as a woman who refused to serve under a man. There is so muc mystery surrounding her story it isn't even funny.

3. vonkristoffer (246) | 5 months ago | ^_^ meenn its a Jewish supernatural tales.. many authors said that lilith is the cause of a man's wet dream.. because she needed the semens to bore more demons.. and later on she became the wife of Lucifer.. some said that.. "Lilith is associated with the lilin, one of three classes of demons that appear in rabbinic writings." thus this word appearance is found in Isa. 34:14-5 (NRSV) no exact evidence that she is the wife of Adam before eve.. its a myth..

4. babyfirefighter (412) | 5 months ago | I believe that the KJV bible is the true bible of god and gods true words. If lilth is no in there then I dont believe that there was anyone called lilith. But you mention Adam are you talking about eve because the bibe only makes mention of eve being made of adams clay. But, I would not mind knowing more about lilith.

| scholar25 (1) | 3 months ago | Well you would be sorely mistaken. And as to why Lilith would be removed, go back to the council of Nicaea, 325AD, when under Roman emperor Constantine the "Bible" was assembled (KJV adapted from this MUCH later). Before 325 women held high posts in the the early church, and were instrumental in spreading the Gospel. For whatever reason virtually all women of power were dropped at this point Mary Magdalene's gospel was dropped- and who spent more time with Jesus during his ministry or knew him better? Even the role of Jesus' mother Mary was devolved, an d after 325 no women were allowed to hold posts of power in the RC church...certainly a powerful, independent woman such as Lilith would be dropped as well. Men did not want to share the power over the masses in the church with women, so historical women who did not act acceptably were marginalized. Not saying that Lilith was Adam's first wife or not, just that if there was any mention of her earlier, Nicaea would have called for her exclusion.

| 5. Tanewha (58) | 5 months ago | The legend of Lilith was taken from the mythology of Mesopotamia like a lot of Bible stories such as Noah's flood which was take from the Epic of Gilgamesh. In the Sumerian theology Lilith, whose name was originally Lilitu, was an agricultural and fertility goddess. She taught mankind how to farm and make bread and brew beer. You should check it out as Lilitu is far more interesting as the Torah version.

I never knew of Lilith till I read Osho, and I thought Osho was cooking things up, like he does sometimes. So there is a Lilith? Well, if she was the independent type, I am not surprised that the bunch of male chauvinists who wrote the OT chucked her out. Cheers and happy mylotting

| 6. Drpachecoa (2) | 3 months ago | you are either miss quoteing or misinterpting scriptures. Lilith was never in the bible. I have study scriptures and traveled the world. And there are not many different translations of the bible. Just have to ask yourself if you understand a word for word or word for thought. Example:King James (Word for Word/12 grade and above reading level) In the begining God created the Heaven and the Earth. N.I.V(Word for thought/5 grade and under reading level) In the begining God created the HeavenS and the Earth. As we all knkow there is one heaven and one earh but when NIV put the word "Heavens" with an "S" at the end is a thought not an amount. It is to help the read understand what is meant not how much was created. Victotiasparda, I think you should not answer some of these question because it is really obvious you know very little and assume a lot. Shalome.

| Drpachecoa (2) | 3 months ago | And for those who think the bible puts down woman I think you should read and not listen to faulse docturen. There are many great woman in the bible. It was a woman who first seen Jesus and she doubted not. It was a woman who gave birth to the only begotton son of the true living God. And much much more. As a matter of fact in the begining God look upon man and said "It is not good that man should be alone so He made him a help meet" A help meet in the orgional scriputers is called "A conferter" and a the title of the Holy Spirit is "The Conferter". So if more men read with understanding. they would know what the closes thing to a holy spirit is a woman of God. Also a man if the head of the house hold but it also says that a Godly woman is the crown on a man's head. The crown simblizes autority, so unless a godly woman gives a man the autority to be the head of the house hold he is just a man. And every king before he is crowned must prove himself worthy. So lilith was never in any scriptures to begin with. From old to new. Hidden or not she is not there. Made up. And just so we get something clean, just because woman was made from the rib of man does not make them unequel, remember it says for the 2 become one flesh. equal but with different jobs to fulfil. Shalome

| sh3g33k (1) | 3 months ago | Some scriptures in the bible make us think that women should be completely silent and never speak in church when that is not true. We have to think about what context the writing was in. In 1 Cor. 14:34-35 it says "Women should be silent during the church meetings. It is not proper for them to speak. They should be submissive, just as the law says. If they have any questions to ask, let them ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings." This is what the foot notes say in my bible, and it makes a lot of sense... It is clear from 11:15 that women prayed and prohesied in public worship. It is also clear in chapters 12-14 that women are given spiritual gifts and are encouraged to excercise them in the body of Christ. Apparantly some of hte women who had become christians thought that their christian freedom gave them the right to question men in public worship. This was causing division in the church. In addition, women of that day did not receive formal religious education as did the men. Woman may have been answered at home without disrupting the services. Paul was asking women not to flaunt their christian freedome during worship. the purplose of pauls words was to promote unity, not to teach womens roles in the church. Then in 1 Timothy 2:12 it is written "I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly." The footnotes say... Paul did not forbid women from ever teaching. Pauls commended co-worker Priscilla, taught Apollos, the great preacer (Acts 18:24-26) In addition In addition, Paul frequently mentioned other women who held positions of responsibility in the church. Phoebe worked in the church (Romans 16:1) Mary, Tryphena, Tryhosa, and Persis were the Lord's workers (Romans 16:6, 12) as were Euodia, Syntyche (Phillipians 4:2). Paul was very likely prohibiting the Ephesian women, not all women from teaching. And on a side note, someone mentioned earlier that The Council of Nicaea took out all mention of women because they didn't want women to be seen anywhere near equal to them... and all that stuff. I don't believe that because they would have taken out all these other mentions of women in the bible. There are men out there that are sexist, and believe that women are below them... And there are men out there who will stand up for a woman's right and stand up to the men who think women are below them... even though a lot of women stereo-type them. There are good and bad women and men. There are women mentioned in the Lineage of Jesus. Before that lineage there was never a woman mentioned in one of them. So I will stand up and say that Men are Good. My man would stand of and defend me anytime and declare that I have every right he does. And I know lots of others who would do the same thing for any woman.

7. overwings (2385) | 3 months ago | Along history the bible have been modified my times in different councils. If I remember well the last one was the Second Vatican council at least in the Catholic church. But before that one there were many since Roman times. The bible is not more than a manual has mosdified whenever it was necessary.

| Drpachecoa (2) | 3 months ago | Once again we go into someone who is assuming rather than seeking or speaking thruth. There is one bible. But many translations. Some are Word for thought while others are Thought for Thought. the reason for this change is because some people can not stomach words in the bible, Like perfect. So to help someone understand what perfect is they would use the phrase "Without sin" or "God like" Or "Good". but these are the readers thought or interpertation from the word to as thought. That is why God calles us to study not assume. Why His word says to seek truth not vain preaching. But we know that for these reason will judgment will come upon the earth and all that is in it. Lack of truth and will change the our Loving God into something more suitable to thier understanding and instead of becomeing wise they have become fools. History has showed that.
