I got the chance to live outside of San Francisco, California for the past two years. I was fascinated by the beauty of the Golden Gate Bridge. Has anyone else ever seen it or driven across it? Did you find it as beautiful as I did? I took this picture one day as my husband was driving us across the bridge. I think it is one of the most artistic photographs I have ever taken in my life. It was just a quick shot that I took from our moving car but I think it came out wonderfully. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Does anyone else have a photo that you have taken of the Golden Gate Bridge? If so, please post it for all of us to see!:)

Yes, I did years ago when I was married to my first husband. I was really surprised that it was orange. You always here the golden gate bridge in my minds eye I had always pictured it as being golden colored. That's one thing traveling does for you it kind of opens your eyes to the world.

I agree... I love to travel, even though I have only been able to travel inside of the U.S. so far. But, either way there is still so much to see. I think I was very fortunate to be able to live in California for two years as I had never lived further west than Missouri. I mostly grew up on the east coast... Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia, and Missouri. I had visited Arizona before but had never been to California until we moved there. I don't think the golden gate bridge looked very orange. Definitely not like a pumpkin colored orange. I think it appears more of a rusty red.

My favorite city is Sydney with its unusual looking bridge and unique looking opera house. Another favorite that I have been to is San Francisco with its Golden Gate Bridge. I walked by the side of it to take photos then I walked across it. Wow! When I was first on My Lot I knew how to post photos on My Lot and did do so but now I have my laptop I haven't got a clue how to do that anymore. I really like your photo. Happy traveling.

I would love to travel abroad and one of the places I'd love to see is Australia. I never did get the chance to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge but we did see it from the tourist spots on both sides and we drove across it a few times. I really liked the town of Sausalito. We went there a few times, once by the ferry that travels from San Francisco to there. Oh, there was a wonderful restaurant we went to that day. It was called the Spinnaker restaurant. It was right on the water with a beautiful view.

I never made it to San Francisco, but I am anxious to see your picture. It will be a wonderful memory for you each time you see it. Southern California has some really amazing sights to see. I lived down near San Diego for a while, with my first hubby, pre family. After he died, the last big trip I took the kids on was to the area, because they wanted to see where we had been as young newly weds. They were leaving home soon themselves so it was a big deal to us.

I've been there twice and YES it is a nice place to go see.
We have rented a taxi to went there and also to the fisherman's dwarf and eat there.
I do love the chinese restaurant in San Francisco

I hope you make it to visit San Francisco someday GardenGerty. It truly is beautiful. I would like to eventually visit the San Diego area someday too. I did go to Disneyland but did not get to see any other part of the southern section of California while we were there. It was just a quick weekend trip and we did not go outside of the immediate area of the park. My husband was there for a dental conference so my 13 year old son & I were fortunate enough to be able to go along and have some fun too. It was nice. Can't wait to go again!:)

In reply to the other comment left here. I went to fisherman's wharf a few times also and liked it a lot. There were so many nice shops and restaurants htere. My son liked the candy shop the best I think! I love the restaurants in San Francisco too.

I've been there a few times, more often since we moved to Sacramento. Not sure if I have a decent shot of the bridge, will have to look!

Hi koala,
Yes I have been over the Golden Gate Bridge many times. My very first time was at 5:00am and the sun was just rising. It was the most incredible sight I had ever seen at that time in my life. Probably in the top 10 best sights of my life. My husband and I drove the streets of San Fran. and it was before the town came to life. The only way to see a city like that. Didn't get any pictures but I can still see it in my mind. Thanks for taking me down memory lane.

Hi leenie50 - yes, I would have to agree that seeing San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge have been one of the best sightseeing experiences that I have had as well. I have many more pictures of that area but this one of the bridge is one of my favorites. I will have to post some others when I get the chance. I bet seeing the bridge at sunrise was beautiful. I never saw it at that time of day. I really loved the weather where we lived. It was about 20 minutes south of San Francisco. It got a little warmer during the day than the downtown area and the morning fog would burn off almost like clockwork everyday before 10:00am. It was a very nice experience having the chance to live there for two years. Now, we are back in good old Virginia and the much warmer weather, plus the heavy humidity at times. But, other than that, I really like it here too. Hope you have a nice evening. Take care.

Hi koala
Where did you say you lived in Ca.? Did I tell you I lived about 2 hrs south of San Fran. just outside of Morro Bay? It was a lttle town called Los Osos. Have you heard of it? I was across the bay from Morro Bay. I called it Paradise!! I'm glad to be back in Fl. to be around my family again, but there is nothing like the Central Coast of Ca. I also hope to see Virginia someday.

Hi Leenie - I'm sorry it has taken me this long to get back to you. I didn't realize you had replied again to my posting. No, I didn't know you used to live in California too. I have not heard of where you lived. I will have to Google it and check it out... sounds really nice. If it is anything like the Monterey Bay area than I'm sure it is just gorgeous. We went to Monterey once and loved it. Have you ever heard of a little place called Cambria? My husband & I went there for a little weekend getaway last January. It was really nice and secluded. The place we stayed was a lodge type atmosphere but real nice. It had two gas fireplaces. One in the bedroom and one in the living room area. It had a mini kitchette and eating area. It even had a nice balcony overlooking the forest in the back. I'd love to go back there someday. It would be fun.

myLot reputation of 99/100. leenie50 (685)   ranked 1,120 out of 3,654 in travel  3 months ago

Koala,
Actually where I lived was 4 hours south of San Fran. I misspoke. cambria was only like 30 minutes tops, North of Morro Bay and Los Osos. From Cambria, San Simeon, Cayucos, Morro Bay and Los Osos, down to Pismo Beach and Santa Barbara, those were our stomping grounds. From San Francisco down to Pismo Beach is in my opinion the most beautiful Coastline I have ever seen. All the little towns are so unique. I really hope that my husband and I can retirwe there someday. If not, at least I had the priviledge of having lived there for all the years that I did.

I was just a little thing when we lived in California - but, I do remember going across the "Golden Gate Bridge" I remember, and perhaps this is why it stays in my memory, that I was terribly disappointed that it was not made out of gold. Could you imagine the weight of a bridge made out of Gold??? lol, but to a little child the orange just looked too fake.

I agree that it is an ominous sight though and your picture is indeed artistic... kind of has you hold your breath for a moment looking at it.

myLot reputation of 98/100. koalatbs (285)   ranked 67 out of 3,654 in travel  4 months ago

LoL... that is funny Modestah, but so cute too for you, as a child, to think that the Golden Gate Bridge was actually made of "gold"!:) I never thought about that but I am sure a lot of kids probably assume it is based on its name.

I was working on an oil painting of the Golden Gate Bridge, but I put it aside and have never gotten around to finishing it. For a year I worked at a place where my office window looked on onto the Bay. That was pretty special. From there the Golden Gate Bridge was in the distance, but definitely visible once the morning fog lifted.

myLot reputation of 98/100. koalatbs (285)   ranked 67 out of 3,654 in travel  4 months ago

That must have been really nice drannhh to have had that view from your office of the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge too. You should pull out that oil painting that you started and try to finish it. Do you paint often? I would love to take an art class now as an adult... specifically a ceramics class. I used the potter's wheel a little while in high school years and years ago and I really like it a lot.

myLot reputation of 93/100. drannhh (5638)   ranked 482 out of 3,654 in travel  4 months ago

I thought that when we retired I would have more time for my own painting, but in truth although I've done a few pictures, not as many as before. I'm drawing more now than then however, and learning to do that better will make my paintings better. Now that you jog my memory, there was one Golden Gate painting that I did finish--it was a bit abstract whereas the one in progress is more realistic, but I liked it. I didn't put it up for sale so it must still be around here somewhere! I should dig it out and entertain my myLot friends with it, eh?

myLot reputation of 98/100. koalatbs (285)   ranked 67 out of 3,654 in travel  3 months ago

I'd love to see that painting if you can find it drannhh! Let me know if you do.

Yes. I'm from Mississippi but I married a guy from California. We drove over and took pictures of the Golden Gate too. San Francisco is such a beautiful city. I've been there a few times but did not get to stay long. Our plane landed there but we were on our way to see my mother in law so we didn't get to spend too much time there. I would love to go back and spend more time in San Francisco.

myLot reputation of 98/100. koalatbs (285)   ranked 67 out of 3,654 in travel  4 months ago

I'm glad you have had the chance to see it too lucy02. I'd love to go back again someday just as a tourist and stay for a week or so and do all of the tourist attractions. We did do some touring around from time to time while living nearby but not as much as I would have liked. Maybe one day we will get the chance to go back again. Hope you get to as well. It is one of my favorite cities so far... so much to do and see!:)

Hi prettyD - I'm glad you liked the photo of the Golden Gate Bridge. I hope you are able to go there someday too so that you can see it with your own eyes in person. I loved San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge was especially nice to see. There are also so many other things to do and see in the city. I really enjoyed living nearby for a couple of years so I was able to see so many things I had never seen before.

Although it can be very beautiful, for me it holds tragic memories. My grandfather jumped from that bridge when I was about 10 years old. They since have taken precautions which don't allow people to jump from its sides so easily. Although I've had the opportunity to walk across it on several occassions, I won't. Its too eerie.

myLot reputation of 98/100. koalatbs (285)   ranked 67 out of 3,654 in travel  4 months ago

Hi Katherine - Good to hear from you... it has been a while. I hope you are doing well. I am so terribly sorry about your grandfather. I have heard stories before of people jumping from the Golden Gate. I can understand why you wouldn't want to travel across it yourself with all of the sad memories of your grandpa. I hope I didn't stir up some bad memories for you sweetie. Take care.
