have a budget for fun time too!  | |  Like many people, we live on a pretty tight budget. Especially with prices rising in all areas but I made sure to include "fun money" in our budget. We have a budget for each weekend. I think it is important to have fun as a family but you can still show your kids how to be accountable and that you have to set limits.
For example, my kids wanted to eat out for lunch one day and dinner tha night but I told them if we did that the fun budget would be exhausted for the whole weekend. They then talked and decided they wanted lunch at McDonalds because it was cheap, and to eat at home for dinner. That way they had enough left in the fun budget to see a movie the next day. It helps them learn to make choices and they try to find free activities too so they can save up a few weeks for maybe a trip to the amusement park.
