My friend had a crock pot recipe, so I told her about one I had made. |
|
Imagine that, now people want it. I just do it from memory. Use a bag of hash browns--24-32 ounces. Stir in a pound of cubed ham. Mix together a can of creamed something soup (celery, mushroom, chicken, whatever you have) with a can of milk and one and a half cups of sour cream. Pour over the meat and potatoes, top with two cups shredded cheese. I wanted to make it so badly. I could taste it, and I did not have any ham. I had a pound of seasoned cubed beef (fully cooked) from a group buying club. So I put it in, with some mushrooms I had cooked, about one quarter cup of green peppers and onions, too. I put it in the crockpot on high for four hours or so, and hubby took it to work. He did leave me some. The sour cream gives it just a tangy taste. I was not sure whether the beef would come out as good or not, well let me tell you, it did. Do you feel free to modify your recipes? I bet cheese soup would be good in this as well.I find it almost impossible to make one the same way twice. Now, does anyone want a crockpot bread recipe?

1. Polly1 (7013) | 4 months ago | That does sound good. I cook that way too, throw a little of this in, a little of that in. I rarely make anything the same way again. I rarely use recipes and when I do, I add my own touches, or don't add things that I don't have. I have been cooking for so many years, I just do it. I have a West Bend Slow Cooker that I use all the time, its a wonderful cooker.

GardenGerty (15061) | 4 months ago | I have slow cookers and crock pots in so many sizes it is not funny. I use a big oval one for this, just because it spreads out more. I have cooked it in the 2.5 or 3 quart pot as well.

2. kimberlylynn (581) | 4 months ago | You can't go wrong with a good crockpot recipe, I will have to try that one! My easy favorite is frozen chicken (can't say the "B" word so I'll say white meat), a can of black beans, a cup of salsa and stir in a container of cream cheese and mix it all in and serve. If you like, cut up the chicken and serve with tortillas. Yes, I would love a bread recipe!!!!

GardenGerty (15061) | 4 months ago | Oh, I will have to try the chicken one. I put a pork roast in, top it with a can of refries, and a jar of salsa and cook it until I can shred the pork. I use it in tacos, burritos, on potatoes, you name it. So easy. I will probably get the bread one out next. It is for Boston Brown Bread. I have not tried any others.

3. snowy22315 (5406) | 4 months ago | That sounds pretty dang good. I think the beef recipie would be good too, kind of like a beef stroganoff. I think it would be good with hamburger or tuna also. I havent tried to make anything like that before but I mgiht when the weather cools off alittle. It sounds like it would be good.

GardenGerty (15061) | 4 months ago | I have to go find it, it is actually Boston Brown Bread. Cooks in cans in the crockpot. I think people either love it or hate it.

JoyfulOne (3299) | 4 months ago | Oh yum!!! I haven't had Boston Brown bread since I was a kid and my grammy used to make it. We all thought it was a great treat when she'd bake it for us. Also, back when we used to do weekly church dinners (for fund raisers), we'd make it for that. Sounds like it'd be a whole lot easier making it in the crockpot, and I like the idea you can do it in a can and have it come out round!!

5. drannhh (5638) | 4 months ago | That sounds so scrumptious. I made cheesy scalloped potatoes in our infrared/;convection oven for the first time recently and when cooked they were still too liquidy, so I stirred in a handful of instant mashed potato flakes. That worked. I almost always modify recipes to healthy them up, adding more veggies, whole grains and extra stuff to cut down the salt, as just about all the package mixed are way too salty, plus they use the commercial salt which is laden with sugard and aluminum (think altzheimers!).

GardenGerty (15061) | 4 months ago | It takes a little planning but cooking from scratch is so much healthier, that is about all I use instant potatoes for is thickening, or "Instant soup".

8. arkaf61 (4859) | 4 months ago | I do! I Do! LOL I have a crock pot but I am afraid I haven't been too creative with it. Actually I haven't used it much for some reason. I guess I don't know many recipes to use it. As for modifying recipes I do it all the time. SOmetimes there's something that sounds really good, but has a few things that I don't like so I change the ingredients a bit. Or sometimes just to try how it will taste if I change this or that. THe truth is that sometimes I can't remember how I did it before, hence the variations heheheheh
