Meet "Yoda"--The Four Earred Kitty |
Heard this story last night on the news about the two year old cat named "Yoda" and was adopted by Valerie and Ted Rock when they saw him prowling around near a bar where they lived. What's special or unusual prey tell about Yoda? Oh, nothing much except he has FOUR ears...that's right, four which is some kind of genetic mutation that only occurs once in a blue moon. According to one article:(Quote)He is perfectly normal, hears well, energetic, cute little cat," Rock said. "Very friendly, very social."The only thing these retirees worry about is a possible catnapping of their curious pet."We always let the cats go outdoors, but this one was so unusual we decided we didn’t want to do that," Rock said. "So we had him chipped, and we keep him inside." http://www.foxnews.com/st... Here are some more articles about this most unusual kitty http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/how aboutthat/2584105/Cat-with-four-ears-a-target-for-catnappers.html http://www.dailymail.co.u... Other than the strange fact that Yoda has four ears, his healthy and according to all the articles I've read a most loving and adorable kitty. The owners named him Yoda as they are Star Wars fans, and believe it or not, George Lucas had originally named that famous Jedi master Yoda after HIS cat. I don't know about you...I think he's cute.....Have you ever seen a kitty with four ears....would you ever consider adopting a cat that had a strange "addition"?

1. lilaclady (17919) | 5 months ago | Oh I am so glad someone took him in, yes I would take an animald in with any strange additions, in fact I think if I went to choose an animals which i have never had to do, they seem to come to me, I would probably go for one that I would think might find it hard getting a home...he sounds lovely..

pyewacket (9128) | 5 months ago | I think Yoda is so adorable. It would never bother me to adopt an animal that had something like that. Another condition some cats get is cerebellar hypoplasia in which a cat's motor skills aren't too keen...they fall a lot their balance is always out of kilter, yet they live normal lives and are without pain..sadly many cats are put down since their owners don't understand the condition ...youtube has a video called This Is Charley..I have it on my profile page...just love that cat!

2. snowy22315 (5602) | 5 months ago | It wouldnt bother me. I'd think it was cute. I used to have a cat with six toes. He was a as cute a s a button. I love cats big, small, cute, tall, short, sweet, sassy and nasty. I just love cats. They are really nice and lots of fun. I also like dogs not to be just a big cat fan. I've never seen a cat I didnt like though.

pyewacket (9128) | 5 months ago | I too had a cat with six toes! His original name I gave him was Koshka, but wound up being named Footie..LOL...My mother got him at Bide A Wee....he was considered unadoptable due to his "deformity" of six toes..she felt sorry for him and adopted him....he was the sweetest cat around and had him for many years before he went to the Land Of Bast

3. OreoCookie3 (15153) | 5 months ago | Oh he is so cute! He does look like some creature off from Star Wars. That is just radical! I love it! Can you imagine a sweet little thing like that being a devil's cat? Some folks are just way too superstitious. That cat is beautiful in a unique kind of way.

pyewacket (9128) | 5 months ago | Well let's face it many people think cats are Satanic to begin with...I'm glad the owners keep him indoors and even went to the trouble to have one of those microchips in his ear...there are unfortunately a lot of sickos that would kidnap Yoda since he's so unusual.

5. BarBaraPrz (1862) | 5 months ago | I think I remember reading about a four-earred cat earlier this year. Not sure if this is the same one, but I think he's quite handsome, for an alien.=^^..^^= If you've read any of the The Cat Who... books, Koko's super intelligence might be a result of having extra whiskers...

BarBaraPrz (1862) | 5 months ago | I would say, that that was required reading in your household.

TheCatLady (694) | 5 months ago | Good thing he has 4 ears if that's what it takes to keep him as an indoor only cat. I think He's adorable. I love that round face. I also love "The Cat Who" books. I love the midnight Louie series. It's even better than the Quillerian and koko ones.

6. sumofalltears (2595) | 5 months ago | I think he is cute, and I love grey cats.....I have wanted a grey cat for a long time. I would take any animal that had a problem as long as it had a good disposition. I have always had very happy animals and I want to keep it that way. I think happy animals develop a personality all their own.

7. Katlady2 (4320) | 5 months ago | Yoda is absolutely adorable! How awesome that those people decided to take him into their home. I hope they keep him inside from now on. Too many people would try to take him for various reasons I think. I actually discovered the other day that one of the feral kittens that adopted us has five toes on each foot! It looks like he's got real thumbs because the extra toes stick straight out from the feet. So now I'm trying to get him tamed down so I can keep him.

pyewacket (9128) | 5 months ago | LOL--I used to have a cat with extra front toes too...he had the sweetest disposition going..originally I gave him the name Koshka but he wound up being called appropriately enough ....Footie..

Katlady2 (4320) | 5 months ago | I named this one Nibbles because he looks like a kitty I used to have by that name. He looks like he is part seal point siamese.

8. tamarafireheart (7696) | 5 months ago | Hi pye, Wow! what a wonderful story, a stray four ears cat found and is now well looked after. You don't often get nice stories like that. I would consider adopting a cat that had strange "addition" all cat needs that chance of love in a good home. Bright Blessings Tamara

9. ljegbers (5761) | 5 months ago | Hey Pye, that kind of ugly cute ya know? I'm happy that kitty found a home. Would I adopt a cat that was different? Well, we have a blind kitten so I wouldn't have any problem with a cat that was just different. We had another one - man I can't think of the technical name for it - but he had a nervous condition and would shake all the time. I brought him into the house when I noticed he was different from his brothers and sisters. There is a name for it and it's more common than people think, but can't for the life of me remember what it's called. So yes, yes I would.

pyewacket (9128) | 5 months ago | It's not cerebellar hypoplasia, is it? When a cat's motor skills are wobbly? It's a fairly common condition and many people don't understand it and unfortunately a lot of cats are put down because of it needlessly...cats like this live regular lives and are in no pain..they just, uh, wobble
| |
ljegbers (5761) | 5 months ago | Could very well be. I know his head shook and he walked like he had tape on his feet. He missed the litter box a lot so hubby booted him outside. He couldn't keep himself clean enough and I think he died of worms and the other cats were mean to him because he was different. I was so mad! Shakes (that was his name) was even tempered, lovable, he just needed alittle help. His motor skills were all off and he was beat on by the outside cats. He'd run away for days and come back all sick looking and starved. I'd give him a bath, feed him and get him put down for the night all to find my husband would boot him out the next morning. It was a vicious cycle, I wanted to string the old man up by his toes and beat him.

pyewacket (9128) | 5 months ago | There's an endearing video on Youtube about Charley who has this condition...I have the video on my profile page and it inspired me to write an article long time ago for AC...here's a link to the video in case you don't see it on my page.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJQG6V1MOVY

10. jerzgirl (1896) | 5 months ago | Isn't he great???? I just saw the story last night!! He looks like a little alien! And, each pair of ears is a different type (rounded and pointed). The pointy pair look like little devil horns, I think! I'm so glad they gave him a home instead of his being a pub novelty. God only knows what might have become of him in that setting with his minor abnormality - just takes one superstitious person to cause a problem, you know?::grrr:: I did have a kitten born with two noses and mouths once - I tried to keep it alive, but it was as though each nose was connected separately and each one smelled what it wanted, so it could never decide which mouth to keep on the teat. But, maybe the mouths weren't fully functional either - he didn't live past two days, so I never knew. But, I have to wonder if Yoda's ears are all functional - it never really says, other than to acknowledge that they really are separate ears, not a single pair that grew with a deformity. Quite the advantage to a creature who already has superior hearing, I think.

BarBaraPrz (1862) | 5 months ago | The extra set is so he can pick up transmissions from the mothership!
| |
pyewacket (9128) | 5 months ago | Glad you saw that story too...did you watch it on World News Now? That's on rather late but I'm still usually up...---yup those extra ears do look like horns...LOL. What great folks to adopt him, no? Aww shame about your two nosed.mouthed kitty... I even saw a Youtube video of a cat born with two extra legs! Haven't heard any updates but the owners were going to get the cat operated on to remove them
| |
jerzgirl (1896) | 5 months ago | No - can't remember where I saw it, but it was online. I rarely watch television. But, he's so cute - like he's got ears from two different kinds of animal. Barb - do you mean like Uncle Martin?

| karun123 (1) | 5 months ago | nice cat.. haha i haven't seen a 4 eared cat before until i saw this picture.. hmm

TheCatLady (694) | 5 months ago | Usually animals with 2 mouths side by side etc., are Siamese twins. Their bodies share everything but the mouths and noses. That kind of Siamese twin just doesn't make it.
| |
BarBaraPrz (1862) | 5 months ago | Jerzgirl... Uncle Martin had retractable antennae...
| |
jerzgirl (1896) | 5 months ago | BarBaraPrez - true, he did, that. But, different planets, different species, similar genetic ideas, different looks. Same difference? (You know - I LOVED that show!!!)
