What do you do when you have a picky eater... |
|
My daughter is such a picky eater... and that would sometimes drive me crazy... i cook something for her but she wouldn't eat it... so i would have to cook something else... I make it a point to remember the food that she likes to eat... but she gets tired of them easily... so there is a need for me to constantly change the menu... one good thing about her being a picky eater is that i don't need to worry about her putting toys in her mouth... i have never seen her do that... and i think that is because she is such a picky eater... So what do you do in this kind of situation?...

1. ravinskye (5153) | 5 months ago | My kids aren't that picky. I never gave them the option to be that picky. They eat what I make for supper or they don't eat. Simple as that. Sometimes it takes a few times eating something before they decide they like it. I've probably got one of the few kids who will eat the crusts of their breads and an apple with the skin on it. I never made it an option to cut the crusts off or peel the apple and they got used to eating it like that.

aseretdd (5303) | 5 months ago | You have it all going well when it comes to feeding your kids... i don't understand why mine is so picky... i guess that is the result of my in-laws giving in to what she wants during lunch time... they take care of her when i go to work... so when dinner time comes... she would rather not eat if she doesn't like the food... she is only two years old... i hope she will outgrow that attitude... thanks for the response...

angiemabute (105) | 5 months ago | Lucky for you because you're kids are not that picky when eating because you discipline them to eat the food that you have prepared. When I was a child, I'm picky with the food I eat but there are foods that I don't like at first but when I was able to eat it for a couple of times. I started to like it also.

2. agihcam (1190) | 5 months ago | My 7 years old daughter have this issue. She loves pride fish all the time than eating a pork or any other viand. Sometimes, If I gave her an egg then she is already happy and could eat much. However, my other kid's doesn't have this issue. Right now, I still trying to offer her other foods especially vegetables but still no luck.

aseretdd (5303) | 5 months ago | I hope our kids will outgrow this attitude... it is not good to stick to a few kind of food... especially at a very young age where they need all the nutrition they can get... thanks for the response...

angiemabute (105) | 5 months ago | Good thing she eats fish. Some children prefer eating too much pork than fish. You have to convince her more. "Patience is a virtue."=)

agihcam (1190) | 5 months ago | Yeah and we're not give up to convince her. We're happy if she learn to it vegetables soon.

3. Adelida2233 (859) | 5 months ago | My mom used to feed me whatever my mom and dad were eating. If I didn't like it, I could go make my own chicken nuggets(or when I was really little I guess she made them for me) however I had to have a taste of whatever it was I refused to eat. We called it a "no thank you taste". I now eat most foods that I hated as a kid. The one exception is zucchini. I still can't stand it.

|
|
aseretdd (5303) | 5 months ago | I haven't tired zucchini... i heard it tasted awful... but i have to try it for myself... the "no thank you taste" is a good way to put it... and i am glad you have outgrown you picky eating habit... i hope my daughter would too... and soon... thanks for the response...

angiemabute (105) | 5 months ago | When I was a child, I hate fish and vegetables but I love eating them now because I know that my body needs those food to be healthy. There's this strange thing about me. I used to eat this chicken soup and egg (sunny side up) during my childhood but I don't like eating them now.

4. lira23 (149) | 5 months ago | If you have a picky eater, just ask what they usually like and that should solve some of the problem,or tell them that if their really hungry then they will eat it otherwise tell them no food. I cooked for my younger sister once and she didn't like what I made so she said, and so i said starve then so she ate without complaint. Just try different foods with picky eaters and see what they like most, mix things up.

aseretdd (5303) | 5 months ago | My baby is only two... so if i ask her she would only say "Sabaw" or soup... but when i prepare on for her... one taste would say it all... she would either just close her mouth... or run away from me... when she gets older... i think i will be more strict on her... thanks for the response... welcome to mylot and i hope you enjoy your stay here...

angiemabute (105) | 5 months ago | My nephew is also picky when it comes to food. He just like chicken, french fries, noodles, to name a few. Since he loves watching wrestling. He is amazed with the big muscles of the wrestlers so every time we fee him, we just told, "eat this and your muscles will be bigger." It's somewhat effective on him. Kinda funny but really helps us on that matter. I think it really depends on the strategy on how you will be able to eat something that a child don't like. When younger, parents can let their children eat what they like but as they grow, parents should discipline them to eat healthy foods no matter they like it or not.

5. sedel1027 (12147) | 5 months ago | My brother was picky like that and my mom always cooked two meals. If my son was that way, he would just not eat. No one should have to fix multiple meals. It is hard enough most nights fixing one meal.

|
aseretdd (5303) | 5 months ago | With the current economic crisis today... it is so impractical to waste food... or to prepare two meals... but i still do it... rather than let my daughter sleep hungry... i would still suffer because she would breastfeed like there's not tomorrow at night when i let her sleep without eating solid food... thanks for the response...

6. everlasting (10027) | 5 months ago | My kids are like that when they are small but I do not let them get out of their chair in the dining room if they didn't finish their food, so they began eating whatever I cooked for them. I also experiment on food that will boost their appetite and never give them in between snacks so they will eat their food at lunch and dinner.

7. auntiedis (132) | 5 months ago | My son is not that picky, he will eat spinach, broccoli, whatever. My stepkids, however, came to me and would eat nothing because they had lived with their grandparents before they came, and they ate nothing but sweets for every meal. It was rediculous. There was a point where I just wanted to give in, and make all kinds of different things, but I stuck to it. Here's what I made, and if they didn't like it, they didn't eat. Don't ask me for anything later. They've been with me for 3 years, and aside from the problems we have with the youngest sometimes (he's autistic) they will eat a huge variety of foods, even salad!:)

aseretdd (5303) | 5 months ago | Wow... a huge salad eater... tat is very uncommon among kids... you must have a lot on your hands right now... i hope your step kids changed they eating habits... since they have been with you for three year now... thanks for the response... welcome to mylot and i hope you enjoy every minute of your stay here...

| 8. izzybutt (28) | 5 months ago | Well, everyone has their own taste and sometimes you can quite understand their quirks. Neither do they. They just like what they like. A lot of times I don't know what I even feel like eating. I say relax. I don't know how old she is, but I found my kids were more apt to eat well and try new foods, if they had a hand in the total process. Take her grocery shopping. If she's interested in a food you wouldn't usually buy, go ahead and buy a small quantity to try. Let her help in the prep of a meal, especially if she chose an item to be served. Offer something new all the time. She find what she likes. True story. My daughter, now 17, would never eat baby food. I nursed her and she ate a little baby cereal. But I was never able to get her to eat baby food or even my own home mashed foods. One night we were eating dinner in front of the TV and she was scooting around in her 'walker'. When I wasn't looking, she scooted up and grabbed my corn on the cob off my plate and started gnawing it to death! At 5 1/2 mos old she had no teeth. But what she saw on my plate, she wanted, and apparently itlooked a whole lot more appetizing than strained peas. That night, she also 'gummed' a chicken leg and and baked potato. She never looked back. I'm very satisfied that the girl still knows what she wants and what she doesn't. And to this day, she still eats good, healthy balanced meals. Hope this helps!

10. gr8life (3031) | 5 months ago | Hello aseretdd, I don't have the same problem with my son. You know how much he weighs? He is 26 kg at 23 month old... For sure, he has a very good appetite. He is not choosy too but he gets tired of the same food quite fast. I change the menu for him every day. He only see the same menu after the 7th day*smiles* By the way, if you talk about a picky eater...it suits me better*smiles*
