Has Anyone Here Taken the GRE as a Disabled Student? | | I realized that I might be able to take the GRE as a disabled student since reading on the computer is hard for me if it is going to be in a small standard sized font and especially as the test is so long. I was looking at the paperwork and was wondering how long it usually takes them to find out. On the website it says 2 months but I don't have that much time. I was wondering if that's the high end of the spectrum or what. If anyone has already been through this before and has any help to offer, I would appreciate it. I'm still not even sure after looking at the forms, of how much documentation they need and all of that.

Is the GRE an exam to get into graduate school? Is the GRE something to do with vocabulary words? I found some info on it, and since you have a reading disability you can scan in the words and have the words and definitions spoken to you through voice on your computer. I am not even sure if I am on the right subject, since I don't know what the GRE stands for, but I think you have to learn something like 1000 or more words and their definitions, right? Some books have the quizzes in the back of the book. I had to do something like this to take the state board exam for nursing. I had a big book to study. Luckily I did well and scored high on my state board exam. I think the worst part of trying to study from a book is the sheer monotony of it. Flash cards might help you also. I used flash cards to learn the drugs for pharmacology. Trying to memorize stuff is just so boring, and I had to work twice as hard as anyone else, due to my not remembering what I read. Again, I am not sure I know what the GRE is, but I think it stands for Graduate Record Exam. If I am right they would cover reading, math, and whatever else you might have majored in such as chemistry or whatever. The tests are multiple choice. I have always been good taking the NLN's, which are standardized tests for up and coming nurses in nursing school. They prepare you to take the state board exam later on. I was always able to pick out the most right answer. Like there would be more than one right answer, but we had to decide which was the best answer. As far as taking the GRE as a disabled student, I don't know what that means, but I think if you are allowed to use a colored background on your test paper, or ask for larger print, or if you can have a colored background on your computer you might be able to do well.

Pigglies (3980) | 1 month ago | Yes, the GRE is a graduate school entrance test. Part of it involves vocabulary. I have painstakingly made vocabulary "flash card" CDs (audio flash cards I suppose you could call them). But the main thing that worries me aside from my lack of vocabulary, is that they have a reading comprehension portion as well. Luckily, I am good at math. But unfortunately I can't see that quickly either. But hopefully being ready for the test will make up for my lack of speed. I wish that the test was still on paper, but instead it's on computer now. But they said I could get enlarged font and change the background color so that should help some. No extra time though without extra testing, which unfortunately I cannot afford. But hopefully I'll be able to do well enough. I also have to take the MCAT later, so since that's more of the subjects that I know hopefully those scores will outweigh the GRE scores.
