Have you ever tried to suicide?

I have been depressed but never suicidal. I may get 'down' but not enough that I don't want to live any more.

well i haven't ever attempted to commit suicide but yes at one point of time in my life i had become very very upset and depressed and fro that one tiny fraction of second to commit suicide, thought passed through my head. but then i know i am not loser and wont be bogged down by life.

I think that everyone feels at times why they are here and how life would be without them around. If it would be easier for those around them that care for them but can't see them in situations like they are in at that moment. It's not an unnatural way of thinking and I've only learnt this due to my own experiences. You are right, some people just can't deal anymore and they end their life but in all honesty, it takes a lot of courage to kill yourself. If you had lack of courage, like myself, then it would be impossible to take your own life. I had a friend who took his and as awful as it sounds, I think everyone should have to go through loosing someone due to depression/problems so everyone could learn that it's the wrong way. EVERY problem in life can be solved, some are more difficult then others and some take longer to go away then others but eventually everything will work out. Taking your life is the easy/cheap way out. Fight your battles in life, that's what makes you stronger. Killing yourself does nothing but hurt those around you who love you and care for you. Doing that gives them a lifetime of hurt and sorrow. It doesn't make it better for them with you being gone and those who really didn't care about you from the beginning are not going to care that you are gone. It just proves to them, that they got to you and they can keep doing it to others.
Suicide is not the right choice in life. It's up to you to change your mind set and lifestyle and to get yourself over the obsicles called LIFE.

I dont think that the question is absurd. Severe cases of major Depression can often lead to suicide. Sometimes the attempt is pathological. Suicidal attempts may be common with people with mild to severe psychiatric disorders.In such cases, hormones & chemical imbalance in the brain causes the depression and thus the suicide attempts. But as you said, there are perfectly normal individuals who face very difficult problems and will choose an easy escape thru destroying themselves. I have faced so many problems in my life, problems that pulled me down, i feel devastated. But my respect for life is just too much, I never attempted suicide. Call me a coward but, the thought of hurting myself thru whatever means scare me so much. I also value life, and yes even all the difficulties, as a gift from up above.

No and I will never attempt to kill myself. Why put my kids and my family through that? I would only be pushing my problems off on someone else. Besides, I have a good life and when the Good Lord is ready to take me home, then that's when I'll go. I've been depressed and so far down in that deep, dark hole that I thought I could never climb out of it, but ya know what? I did it and not once did I ever consider suicide. I don't understand people that actually want to take their own lives.

I have never attempted suicide. I don't think I could go through with it. I have had moments in my mind where I can get depressed. I have had some struggles in my life. I don't condemn those who have committed suicide or attempted to.
They seem to be lost souls who really need help and understanding through a crisis. I have things to live for and want to see a lot of things in life.

I am more then ashamed to say that yes I did. It happened when I was a teenager. I hated the way I looked. I thought of myself as a very ugly person. Both inside & out, especially out. My father used to abuse me verbably as well as physically. He would make fun of my looks & always put me down. When I went to school I got insulted there as well. One day I had a very bad day at school with the kids making fun of me etc. etc. I decided I had had enough. I took a whole bottle of pills. I didn't know what they were only that they were something perscribed for my Mother. The next day my Mom found me & rushed me to the hospital. The doctors said I almost died. I am not proud of the fact that I tried to kill myself nor is it something I even like talking about. I know now that it was a cowards way of dealing with things. Not to mention it was a very selfesh thing to do. I didn't think about how doing something like that would effect the rest of my family, most of all my mother. My actions hurt her very badly. I will be sorry for what I must have put her through for the rest of my life. The only reason I am even sharing this with any of you now is because I am hoping that maybe my story will just reach some of you who maybe feeling that this is the only answer to your problems. I am telling you about it now in the hopes that if you ever even think about taking your own life that you instead talk to someone immediately. Also think long & hard about what this would do to the people that love you. Taking your own life doesn't just effect you but those around you as well. Never allow your depression or any other emotions you may be feeling to take you down this road. It doesn't solve your problems, but in fact only makes things worse.

I have taken overdoses in the past but have asked for help afterwards so do not think i seriously wanted to die. Saying that though i took a prety big risk and i could have done. I felt so low and although I knew what i was doing I could not really understand why. It is easy for people to say that they would never put their family through that and I can understand that but when you feel so low and can not think rationally, it does not really work like that. I am a lot betetr now but try to take each day at a time.

I attempted suicide 12 years ago when I was 15. I grew up in a broken home where there was no love just hate. My siblings and I were always told how worthless and stupid we were and how unwanted we were. I just couldn't handle it so I ran away, the state made me go back even after my parents admitted what they were doing to all of us. They promised the social worker they would change, they didn't. I only had one friend and she was moving away, I didn't see a way out. I was so depressed I slit my wrist until I passed out. My Mom found me I guess I passed out from the shock. I still have the scars as reminders and can't believe how crazy I was to do that to myself. That night changed all of us my parents were so much better and loved me from then on. I haven't contemplated suicide since that day. I have so much to live for and love myself too much. Great discussion topic.

no way, life is filled with beautiful things nothing is worth taking your own life away. and yes i have faced many many bad things but thought to myself that in the end i would be ok.
