would you watch a movie if you are pregnant? |
|
hi there? i have a question. would you watch a movie if you are pregnant? i don't mean watching a movie on dvd, but watching a movie in a theater. i dunno, i just have this notion that the moviehouse is a concentrated place of viruses and germs, i mean people sit there for hours and if they are sick, who knows how much bacteria etc are there. and when one is pregnant, one is susceptible to like even the common cold, fever, etc. and then, of course, we cannot take medicines. so i opted to stay away from theaters while i am pregnant, even though there had been so many nice movies showing. but my sister in law says that i may be too paranoid and my baby would be "too clean" and not build up, you know, immunity, etc. well, i brought it up to my husband and he said, well we can wait after the first trimester, which is the critical part of the baby's growing up and the pregnancy. so what do you think guys? if you had been pregnant, did you still go to the movies? take care all and God bless you!

1. guybrush (2095) | 3 months ago | I'd never thought about it in that way, but I think your SIL is quite right about building up immunity. I have four children, and with our first, I was SO sterile about everything - if she dropped a toy I'd throw it in the sterilising solution before letting her have it back, I'd be scrubbing my hands 50 times a day - and yet she caught everything going! By the time I had the third and fourth children I was far too busy for all the mucking around, and they grew up without any fussy treatment. Neither of them ever caught so much as a sniffle! I think a few 'normal' household germs are good for building up a child's immunity. Going to the theatre should be fine - unless you're aware they've just had an outbreak of bubonic plague there. It's hard not to worry, I know.

2. travibabiesgirl (990) | 3 months ago | I think you are a new mom and worried about your baby. I do think though as new moms we tend to go overboard on the worries and precautions. I think going to the movies and out to eat are things that will not really harm you or your baby to much. If it makes you feel better take some germx to use after using the bathroom or buying food. I still went out and did the usual things and all three of my children cam out healthy and fine. My last one was a preemie but it was because of a medical condition. It was not caused by germs or anything of that nature. If you are still concerned about this talk to your doctor so he can reassure you or advise you on the do's and don'ts. Congrats on your pregnancy.

There are people who agree with her about building immunity and such; I'm one of those people. That's not to say you should intentionally expose yourself/your baby to desperately ill people; you should definitely not! But you can't stop living your life as normally as possible. Kids get sick. Fact of life. Particularly when they start spending time regularly with other kids. Building up their immunity by not becoming a hermit is good for them, as long as you are still responsible. I absolutely went to the movies while pregnant. It's no different, really, than going to a restaurant, store, the mall, etc. Not to mention that once the baby comes, you'll have little choice but to wait for the DVD for most films. Babysitters (and babies!) are expensive, and it will curb your trips to the theater. Also, there ARE medications you can take for illness while pregnant - simply check with your doctor about what is safe for you. Good luck and congrats!

| 4. Magene (79) | 3 months ago | I don't think you have to worry. A theater has as many germs as many public places, and common items you buy in a store could be covered with germs. It's not a bad thing to be worried but don't worry so much about this. However, if I were pregnant I wouldn't go to the movies because I'd rather save the money.

6. titagdl (132) | 3 months ago | Well everything you mention is true, there are millions of vruses and germs but not just there, everywhere!!! I recently heard about inspections at hotels and restaurants and we would never EVER go out if you really knew the full extent to the filth in some places and i´m talking about nice expensive places, where you would never expect that. So, if that´s the issue no place is safe so you might as well go out anyways,,,just a tip carry some lysol in your purse anyweays!!!

9. APPCHEM (113) | 3 months ago | there is no harm watching a movie in a theatre unless it is not scary. When i was pregnant i was not permitted to go out a lot as my hubby used to feel insecure that something will happen to our baby. but its different for everyone. my sister is 8 month pregnant & still she is going to theatres.
