Death: Fact of Life we Refuse to Acknowldge? email this discussion to a friend?

Someone so young and so alive has just passed away. She is a pretty girl, seemed so nice. She is a depiction of a good life. She had practically everything, good looks and brains, and a killer smile. I didn't understand how I felt when I received the news of her death. I was so tempted to ask God why, well I just did bcause I already had it in mind. But I continue to wonder, why it happend, why her? Someone so alive is so dead now, she is only a teener.
What is really honestly striking about her death is the thought that life is just but a fleeting experience. I have thought about this a gazillion times, and I've heard about it, and in effect realized this very thought but it all seem that it is all but a thought, and never has become an understanding. I know it could happen, but I reject the fact that it could happen.Or maybe, I just refuse to acknowledge it, because it is against the concentration gradient, as science put it, or, it does not follow the natural order of things as reason argues. The death of that beautiful girl breaks my heart. It is surely breaking a ot of hearts. Her passing away must be an overwhelmingly painful experience for her parents. They may have questions, lots of questions. But there may be more regrets than questions. Had they made her happy? Are they feeling the emotions, portrayed by movie characters, of being so late, and realizing the worth of that loved one who has passed away when that person is gone forever for the rest of their lives?Does it take someone else's life for us to learn this fact of life? To be kind and sensitive, and to love and show love to the people who matters to us? Why do we realize their worth after they're gone? We were never taught to take anyone for granted, but why is it deeply engraved in our thoughts, which has dreadfully become an act that has tragically become a habit? It has become a culture. Where did we learn all these? Has the world been plagued with this kind of ailing culture? Perhaps. We see it everywhere, we don't acknowledge its occurence, and by rejecting the idea of it, we allow ourselves to get infected by it. The human race has become so weak, and getting weaker and weaker.
How many deaths should there be for us to realize?

Please don't be so cynical, sometimes life is so sad. I take pity on that girl. But she has passed away. Some are alive, and some are just dead. Why not learn to face the truth, face the world? Maybe God is too jealous of her. Or one's life has been destined by God, we can't change it.

WOW this is a tough topic. You are right death is a hard one to face. We as humans tend not to like talking about it.

My mom never talked about it with my sister and I. We never new what she wanted in case she left us behind. When she did leave we were left with not just the void of being without mom. But now we had to wonder what kind of service did she or did she not want. Did she want to be buried or creamated.

Death is an ugly subject for us. Its sad and its terribly dreary. I thought that I learned my lesson after mom. But how quickly I fell back into my old habits or forgetting to say those 3 little words that can mean the world..."I Love You."

myLot reputation of 98/100. milfea (145)   ranked 30 out of 2,916 in life  3 months ago

Hello boopiedog.:). To most of us, death is perceived as sad, and is equated to an overwhelming grief. And the human race is trying so hard to delay it, or we even dream of escaping from it. Maybe because we want to escape from such sorrow. On the other hand, we can also see it as an opportunity of celebrating life. More often than not, we are so busy existing, and we struggle to survive that makes us forget to actually live life, to have a life and not merely exist. Hugs, and smiles, and the short phrase "I love you" are sometimes far more better than the most expensive gifts that we can give. We will never know when our time is up, or when the time of the people who matters to us is up. Thanks for this. I would try asking my parents and my brothers and sisters about this, and I'll also tell them how I want to be honored on my funeral, just in case I'll go ahead of them.

Good day.. Yes, death doesn't respect age or gender. I mean it's sad but as we all know that when one is born, one is also destined to die. As one can't predict the exact time of birth so it is with the exact time of death. I guess we just have to do the best we can when we're still alive and love those who really meant something to us.

myLot reputation of 98/100. milfea (145)   ranked 30 out of 2,916 in life  3 months ago

True, very true blackmantra. Life is indeed coupled with death, it's like the chocolate of the coffee in a mocha drink. And the life given to us could be taken to us in the most unexpected ways and time. And so I've been told to live each day as if it's your last, and treat people you meet each day as if it would be the last time that you'll be seeing them.

You know milfea, you are right. We all will face death sometime. It could be tonight, tomorrow, or fifty years but we will all die one day. I think each of us has a natural instinct to live though. To fight with all our might to live. And this is as it should be. If we sat around thinking that we are going to die, we would be miserable and never get anything accomplished. We have to live while we are living.

I have faced the death of so many family memebers that it sometimes gets me down and I think I am close to drawing my last breath. But I know I can't live like that. I have to get up and get out and do something. I have to keep living.

But you are also right when you say that we should be kind and sensitive and to love and show love to the people who matter to us. And it's for the very reason, that we never know when that special someone may die, or we may die and leave words unsaid that we would like to have said. So we need to tell people what we want them to know now. Not put it off.

I lost my granddaughter to a terrible disease, Spinal Muscular Atrophy when she was eighteen months old. She taught me a lot about living and dying and how to cram a world of love into a short eighteen months. We lived and breathed for her. Her world was filled with love. We had the opportunity of knowing and therefore building many, many loving memories with her.

Then a year after she died, I lost my husband of 36 years, suddenly to a heart attack. He had never been sick. I never dreamed that he would die before me. I was the one in poor health, but you just never know. I did'nt get to tell him goodbye. This hurts so bad, but I do have the knowledge that we had a happy loving thirty six years together and am very grateful for that.

So we just have to keep pushing forward, trying our best and remembering to give lots of love to those who are important to us.

That's all we can do. We just keep trying, we just keep living.

Hugs,
Nana

Death is a strange thing. Sad that we would realize their worth after they are gone. All that should be communicated while they are alive. If you don't do just that then you will hurt because things were not resolved during their life.

myLot reputation of 98/100. milfea (145)   ranked 30 out of 2,916 in life  3 months ago

Amen to that celticeagle. That must be the very reason why we feel pain, we actually cry for ourselves. For our loss, and for not being able to tell that person how special he or she is to us. Is it more of guilt than grief? Or both?

Hey there milftea, I think what you are pledging is for people to appreciate more. I wish it will happen too but sadly, humans are humans.Humans have weaknesses and from my observation, a lot of them are insensitive to other people's feelings. To change the attitude of human beings is like asking smokers to quit smoking. It's very difficult although it is definitely possible. I always view death as a pleasant thing as I believe in life after death. Of course we feel sad when a soul is taken by God. It is a humanly feeling to feel sad because of a person leaving us but I always wished them the best in the after life and I know one day I will join them sooner or later.^^

myLot reputation of 98/100. milfea (145)   ranked 30 out of 2,916 in life  3 months ago

Hello Koharukusumi.:)

While it is true that we can influence people to change, it is their personal decision to take a step and do something for change to take place. And there is completely nothing we can do about it. If they choose not to, then we can just be sad about it. But I refuse to get discouraged in affecting influence to take a step and making people realize that they need it, they need to change.

Thank you so much for this, I'm taking it as an encouragement.

As the scriptures say, we should all be ready to die. But human as we are, it's hard to face it. We may say that we are ready yet we still fear about many things including leaving our family, relatives and friends. Or we may think of living more years on earth as we have not yet settled some unfinished business with people you encountered in the past. That is a fact. But it's hard to accept it.

myLot reputation of 98/100. milfea (145)   ranked 30 out of 2,916 in life  3 months ago

It sure is hard to accept. However showing the people we love that they are loved, every single time that we get to have an opportunity, would get us closer to taking away that fear of not showing them enough. In this way we are ready anytime. No matter how and when we die.

well, death is the destiny of all human kind. as was written in Hebrews 9:27.. it is a sad fact for those who do not know where they are going. however, to those who know and assured where we are going, then it is just but a beginning of a life that is filled with awe and much happiness.. as exemplified by Paul, death is the end of his life here on earth, but he is rest assured that the future life he has will be much better.. though the birthpain is there, but in time, we will be able to accept that sad fact...

Death is a part of life. I don't think we intentionally take one another for granted. I think since we don't think about death, we always think there will be a tomorrow to show appreciation. We do talk about death to some degree in my family. My mother has stated what she does and doesn't want to happen regarding funeral services and I have told her what I will and won't do regarding her wishes. She doesn't want a service. I explained to her that her grandchildren would be devestated by that. We have agreed on a private service. She isn't sick or anything, it's just something we have discussed. I have discussed with my adult children and with my mother and siblings who and how my minor children are to be raised should I unexpectedly die. I think past generations used to be more prepared for death than we are today. Maybe because through medical breakthroughs we can extend life so much longer, we have a false sense of security about staving off the inevitable. Therefore we don't face it. But in my grandmother's and greatgrandmother's time, "having your affairs in order" in case of death was a natural part of life. It was part of being a responsible adult. Additionally, more emphasis was placed on living a life that acceptable to GOD so that when you die you would go home to HIM was also done as a preparation for death.

Hi Cbreeze, thanks so much for this. It is comforting to know that you can freely talk about this issue with so much ease with your family members. We do too. It's like talking about any other plan in life. Just like discussing when to resign from a job, or was an experience enriching or what. I really like your response. It's very encouraging. Thanks again.:)

Not all people refuse to acknowledge the fact about death. Some are afraid of it, some ignore it but that doesn't mean that she/he is afraid of it. Appreciation of something need not be expressed in words, some choose to keep it on their hearts.

myLot reputation of 98/100. milfea (145)   ranked 30 out of 2,916 in life  3 months ago

Hey there mhonna, if every single soul here on earth has a mind like yours, no tears will be shed in every funeral. Fact is, most people hunger for acknowledgement. That's why the words sorrow, insecurity, depression, emptiness exist. And these are not only words of the dictionary, but they are emotions too, something felt, and something that has a great influence in our lives.
