How long is your PC on?  |

 How many hours a day approximately do you keep your PC on at home daily? Do you get scared at times that parts might get heated up too much and conk off? Or you're pretty cool with it?
I keep my PC on at least 18 - 20 hours i guess in a day. This is because i just love browsing the internet and also i download and upload a lot of stuff. So at nights too i leave my PC on to download and upload. The time when my PC is usually off for sometime is when i get up in the morning. I turn it off to rest for sometime. Also occasionally during the day time here and there maybe i switch it off.
I never feel scared that things might get overheated and conk off. but many of my friends do thats why asked you'll that question.

3.  sedel1027 (12147) | 5 months ago |  We leave ours running all day and night. It is too much stress on the system to keep turning it on and off. While the PC is in "sleep" mode u energy sage is about as much energy as having it off and plugged in.
Usually peoples energy consumption comes from monitors.

4.  hellcowboy (3990) | 5 months ago |  Here at my parents house we have my parents desktop and mine and my fiances laptop the desktop is always on unless we are having a storm or something because I do not think it does any harm to leave it on,the laptop is only left on for several hours at a time because it heats up quickly and we do not want it to get too hot and fry something inside of it.

| 7. Piscesmoon (2051) | 5 months ago |  Turning a computer on and off does more harm to your system than leaving it running for 24 hours per day. Expansion and contraction from the heat extremes of being cold and heating up, and vice versa, cause problems in themselves. IF your fan was constantly running, you would know that your computer was starting to overheat, probably due to dust buildup in the fans and other components. My computer has been running for over 26 hours (turned it on yesterday afternoon, left it on overnight to defragment and it has been in use since this morning)and the fan hasn't come on once. However, if you are going to keep it running, you need to turn it off long enough to open the case every now and then to clean the insides. I do turn mine off if I won't be home but that is because of the risks of power surges due to storms or the electrical circuits in the house, rather than from the computer overheating.

Generally I'd be on the PC for anywhere from 6-12 hours. More if I'm downloading and uploading stuff. No problems such as overheating. Gladly, it remains stable.
