Well, I Finally Hit a Wall...Literally! email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 93/100. wrdsofwisdm (757)   ranked 2,485 out of 30,319 in life5 months ago

The other day my mom insisted I take her to Walgreens drug store for her prescriptions. I usually go to the drive-thru. This time she insisted on going into the store. I went to pull into a parking space...and then it happened.
Somehow I got the top of my right foot stuck under the brake pedal and couldn't get it out from under there. As I panicked, I hit the gas pedal with the heal of my foot, flew up the sidewalk and slammed into the wall. The air bags deployed and it was a complete nightmare! I haven't been in an accident in over 20 years. Of course it could not have happened at a worse time.
I am an interior designer-contractor and finding work has been horrendous...so I had recently requested that my car insurance be possibly lowered to..you guessed it..Liability! So they immediately changed it instead of going over my options. It gets better. The bimbo in the store called 911 instead of the regular number and seconds later sirens were blaring and the fire truck also appeared. This just heightened my anxiety and drew more people to the scene that ignorantly walked up, stared at the wall, looked at me and laughed. How ignorant are they?
It was insane. I haven't been on mylot much (and apologize to those on my friends list)because I have been trying diligently to find work before I lose everything I worked hard for. Now I have my car sitting at a shop because I am waiting to attain the 1800.00 dollars it is going to cost me to get the air bag system replaced. Luckily, (Yeah right) the 8 month old Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has a great front bumper so there was not much damage to the body, but by law, I cannot drive it until the air bags are replaced. Thank god nobody was injured other than me. Mom is a little sore but I got the worst of it with a nasty burn on my arm and some bruises from the airbag plus many pains in my back and neck.
Ah, ain't life grand sometimes? I just wish I could stop having flashbacks of the crash and get a full night's sleep. Any suggestions?

Well for one thing, I am glad that you and your mom are OK. Accidents don't always turn out for the good, these days...

The another good thing is that your misfortune caused you to write this discussion, so that you could share the weight of your troubles with your Mylot family. You seem to have a knack for expressive writing, and that could come in handy for you.

I have a few suggestions that might help you with your job search, if you dont mind...

Simply Hired is a brand new search engine that is dedicated to helping folks make life easier during this stressful task...

http://www.simplyhired.com

It certainly couldn't hurt to go visit Expert Village, and see if you could become one of their Experts... The exposure would be tremendous, as this is one of the most popular sites in the world!

If you are an Executive level candidate you might want to try The Ladders and Blue Chip Expert... These sites may be found on my Business Center, along with other employment resources...

Please enjoy your visit, and make sure that you find some time to see the humour of things... Taking a moment to laugh about stuff really works for me, and I write a lot of funny discussions and blogs here at Mylot and Apsense. You are invited to grab a few giggles for yourself at no extra charge!:)

Thank you very much for your suggestions. I will definitely look into them.
The evening of the accident, my mom said that everything happens for a reason.
I always say that to her, so it was funny.
I said that it could be a sign that I am ahem...quickly moving forward in my life and breaking down the walls that get in my way. lol

I like the way your Mom thinks, Wrds!:)

If and when you get hired, I hope that you can afford to buy a more substantial vehicle... Maybe a Tundra like the guy had when he took out an entire drive thru bank in Texas! LOL!:)

Yikes, how terrible. At least nobody got seriously hurt, which is the most important thing.
Coincidentally and unrelatedly, I saw a truck that got flip-turned upside down this morning.

myLot reputation of 93/100. wrdsofwisdm (757)   ranked 2,485 out of 30,319 in life  5 months ago

You're right about that. It could have been worse. That's awful that someone's truck flipped. I wonder if all those ignoramuses that laughed at me would laugh at that. I cannot understand how anyone would find an accident humorous.

You poor baby! That had to be awful! THen one thing after another! That really s*cks.....if there were anyway I could help I would but I dont' know how you would get rid of the flashbacks! And I know for me when I am overtired then everything gets blown out of proportion and I can't handle things! I'll cross my fingers that you get a really big job! LIke something industrial....huge!

myLot reputation of 93/100. wrdsofwisdm (757)   ranked 2,485 out of 30,319 in life  5 months ago

Jillhill, you'r so sweet. Thank you.
Last night was the first night since the accident that I didn't have a flashback.
I think that is because someone that owes me over 30,000.00 from a house renovation in 2006, stepped up and brought the mechanic a check for 1,500.00 to start the work on the airbags. I think all the stress was taking me over and if you and I were ever to meet, you'd notice that I am normally a very strong person and can handle just about anything. I think that is why this situation got to me so badly. I've never had trouble getting work and with this economy, I am one of many that are suffering. I also take care of mom so that makes things more difficult. Now I just have to keep positive and things will work out.

I haven't been on my lot for a long, long, time. I read your Wall...Literally and thought that really does SU*K. But your OK, flashbacks and anxiety are normal in any memorable happening.

1st and formost you didn't get hurt. Metal can be replaced, people cannot. Which brings me to the next sentence. Thank god you had angels looking after you an others that day. You know it could of been more sever and more serious of a situation, that is for sure. No matter how strong of a person you are, no matter how you handle the situation, you noticed a lot of stress was taking you over for many reason. One, what if a human being was there in front of me before the wall? Another might have been, if only the nations economy was better, I would have been busy as an interior designer-contractor and finding work would have been not an issue, which would of kept you from requesting that your 8 month old Jeep Wrangler insurance be lowered to just liabliity. Sirens from police cars and firetrucks blaring doesn't help either nor people gathering around and staring at the wall, then looking at you and laughing. It was an accident for haven sakes, it could of happen to anyone. And just knowing that the jeep would need to be repair as good as or better than added more stress to, especially if you just changed the policy to liability at a time when everything seemed not fair. Where would you get the $1,800.00 from, how am I going to go back to work if I don't have a legally drivable jeep, snice air bags needed to be replaced and its a law they must be replace to make the jeep legal on the road. Work and transportation go hand and hand. And with what you suffered with nasty burns on your arm and pains in your back and neck, life ain't so grand. I can understand the flashbacks of the crash and you not getting a full nights sleep. It is a lot of stress, thats for sure and stress is not a good thing. You mom is right in saying, everything happens for a reason. I think the person who help you out, showed his love, care and compassion, toward you by giving the body shop a $1,500.00 check and I am sure he would even pay more to see that you drive, in a safe beautiful Jeep Wrangler. You said he owns you lots of moolah. Over $30,000.00 snice renovating a house in 2006. I just want to say that I tried once to flip a house and everything went wrong for me. In fact after it was all said and done, I had lost all my saving $38,000.00 plus put myself in debt to the tune of $ 50,000.00 and still trying to pay those credit card. I made sure the people I worked with didn't get hurt. Thank God an angel was over me at the time, I have to price the home $50,000.00 less to get it out of my hands. I realized an important lesson from this, when you are hanging by a thread and telling people you are broke and have no money, they don't believe you, nor care about it, they are concerned with themselves and thing, oh he has money, he will make lots of money, which is not the case here. So would be buyers of real estate, bcare in todays market, if you do anything do it with income property. So many forcluse are happening, people need to rent apartments. Stay alway from single family homes until this market stabilizes.

On top of this stress, my father had a stoke just as I started the flip, a year earler my mother had a triple bypass, then during the flip I found out she had CML (lukeymia) and now she just had shoulder surgery six weeks agao, due to her arthirtis. I know about stress. Just my mothers medications are costing $ 4800.00 a month, my fathers only $ 1,325.00 a month. I now take care of both my parents needs, There not going to died in a nursing house, there going to both died at home, where they belong. So am kinda an expert on stress. You think you have it bad but there are other people out there that have it worst. If you are not hurt, say thank god, for keeping me health and able to work. Don't get me wrong I preach what I say, and I do Thank god for my health thou I need to take action it it and improve it. I work as a consultant and Thank God I do that, God has given me the strenght to get up every morning and realize there is no way I could work a full time 9:00-5:00 job at an office downtown all day and take care of my mother and father also.

Working as a consulatnt gives me flexablity to keep surviving, to exist until the next turn, or the next day. So wodsofwisdom I hope my story will help you understand, that I lost many things in life, my company, my health, my love, the women I care about and love which I wish happiness and better things for. I have no regrets about anything in my life, Everything happens for a reason, as your mother said. I try to live life honourable, with dignity, respect and commitment to make tommorow better than today to help people understand it could be worst. I still help others when I can, I do have a heart of gold, even if others think not.

So if you think you have problems, taking care of mom, look at mine. I'm glad someone has been watching over you, its nice to have angels, a true friends that actully care about you for you is one of many angels in your life and those are hard to come by. Most people can call you a friend, say they will try to help. It takes life lessons to stop having flashbacks of the crash and get a full night sleep, ain't life grand sometimes? Someone stepped up to help you when others won't, not couldn't. Now you will have transportation and you could go to work when you find a job, make some money and keep paying your bills and not lose everything you worked so hard to get in your life. I know you must appreciate what this person has done for you with the mechanic, has he asked for something from you? Has he gone and done something better than that? Has he said if its a loan? Have you asked if he could afford what he is doing for you? Have you promised him work in return? Have you tried to ask anyone else for help other than him, and what did those others say? Did he have to be threaten to do what he did for you? Sometimes we can go through life and say why me? Choice we make in lfe, has shown, that everthing happens for a reason. The choice we make and the action we take are positive always. But sometimes the reason they happen the way they do are so we learn. Keeping positive things will work out in the end is a strong person, not ones that blames others for there life. That is off my back now, whew!

(A note, I think we all do what we must to survive in this world on a day in day out bases, including having to drive safely to work everyday and about. With newer autos or rv's, we should try to cut out eating out once a week, or Walgreens, Carson's, etc..I am just saying, better to cut something else out of your normal monthly expenses or budget than car insurance. You have to say to yourself, was the saving really worth it? It's when you really need insurance that you don't have it.) But I do understand many in todays economy many are suffering with the worst housing market ever. Many people in the construction industry, are hurt. Many companies are downsizing and layoffs are a everyday thing now. Even banks are failing by the hundreds. I hope things will get better but they usally get worst before they get better. Its a life experience, a cycle which hopefully we will all learn that it wasn't done without positive thinking and strong people nor taking action, there is a reason why it happen, so we learn from it so it may never happen again. Otherwise we will keep doing the same thing over and over again.

Unfortunately I think it will take a bit of time to get over the wall incident. I think once the initial excitement and embarrassment of it wears off you will not have so many flashbacks.

I think I would try maybe relaxing at night. Just simple breathing or warm, relaxing baths to help calm you down. Also, I'd just keep in mind that accidents happen, thats why they are called accidents. It could have happened to anyone, not just you.

Thank you, you are right. I am finally starting to calm down now that the mechanic received a check from someone that owes me a lot of moolah. That is off my back now, whew!

Oh my, when it rains it pours, doesn't it? Just remind yourself you're not the first person who has fan into the wall at Walgreen's. happy Well I am glad you are okay. It takes a while to get over something like that. I cringed for years when I passed an intersection where I had an accident. Are you taking anything for your anxiety? Sometimes meditation helps me with mine.

myLot reputation of 99/100. lucy02 (4339)   ranked 4,562 out of 30,319 in life  5 months ago

That's suppose to be "ran into the wall" not "fan".

Hi lucy02,
I haven't taken anything for it, but am finally letting go of the situation and moving forward. Now as soon as this ugly large nasty airbag burn disappears from my arm, I can forget the whole thing. wink
