Myths about Bottled Water being better than Tap Water... |
|
I'd learned this last summer when Nestle and Pepsi both admited that their bottled water was just extra filtered municipal water. My husband after 60 years of drinking tap water has profoundly decided that bottle is Much more better and refuses to drink tap water. I emailed this to him...let you know what he says...if it is printable http://www.marieclaire.co... What do you think? Does it change your mind?

coffeebreak (3025) | 3 months ago | Preachin' to the choir, my friend! I will buy a case of the bottle (24) water and then just put in 6 to the fridge and then just refill with tap as they empty and put them back in the fridge! A case last a LONG time!

2. mykmari_08 (1457) | 3 months ago | Honestly, I've never heard these claims by Nestle and Pepsi until now and from you. But even without these claims, I personally am not a big fan of bottled water. But this does not mean that I don't purchase any liquids contained in bottles. As a matter-of-fact, my husband and I do; but we don't do this on a regular basis. Usually, we buy bottled liquids and beverages (water, juices, soda, buco or coconut water) whenever we travel through the public transport (public utility buses or vehicles) going to and from the province. Our trips usually take more than five hours and even if we did bring a bottle of water with us, we consume more than what we brought, on the average. On my own point of view, I'm quite curious and doubtful at the same time as to why these bottled liquids were produced. Are they really safer than the tap water? I really believe that one reason is to introduce this to the market and make a big business out of it. And by making negative or positive "claims" out of it, they are making a big profit in the process. So, I'd say that I personally am staying with the tap water and patronizing bottled liquids on certain occasions.

coffeebreak (3025) | 3 months ago | I heard on the news last year (about August) about the Pepsi and Nestle admitting theirs was only filtered an additional time (or 2) but that it was municipal water nad supposedly they now have that on the label. It ran for about 10 days as "top news". I haven't check, don't really care! I dont' buy. I will buy a case (24) just so I have the bottles and just keep refilling them with the tap and having cold water in the fridge! They started the bottled water, cause they found a market of buyers. Trust me, if MY husband fell for this, they have their corner on the market cause he don't "fall" or believe anything!

3. joyceshookery (675) | 3 months ago | I didn't know that! However, I feel just a tad better that I spent $40 for a water filter on my faucet just for the convenience of not having to trek my bottles to the water store or buy more bottled water. I still have to buy replacement filters for the water system, so I'll never save money. It's just nice to have decent tasting water that comes out of the tap.

4. goldenapple951 (156) | 3 months ago | When I was a kid....only the so called rich people bought water from bottles.. My goodness we even drank from a garden hose on a hot summer day.. But I will admit I never drink tap water..Has a kind of metallic after taste.. I only try to buy it when its on sale.. My ice tea just seems to taste better.

coffeebreak (3025) | 3 months ago | You are just not used to it. When we moved to Texas, we had our own well. That water tasted so icky! But we got used to it and found out it was just the difference in taste between fresh water and treated municipal water.

5. drannhh (5517) | 3 months ago | Well, no it doesn't change my mind, because I would never drink tap water either. I filter my own or buy it from a trusted vendor where the water is filtered on site and the facilities cleaned and inspected on a regular schedule. Of course some communities have better water than others, but I don'[t even bathe or wash my hands in unfiltered tap water, using separate filtration systems under every sink and a shower filter in addition to a 3-stage whole house filter in the garage.

coffeebreak (3025) | 3 months ago | Nice that you can have that! Thing is...municipal water has been around for decades and decades and everyone has drank it and not had any problems. I told my husband, "you've been drinking municipal water for 60 years, if it hasn't killed you by now or cause you any other problems, I'd say you're are pretty safe that you'll be okay to contiue drinking it".

6. itsmefaith (1513) | 3 months ago | I don't drink tap water because of the taste. I think it has a very rusty, funky taste. It has nothing to do with health or vitamins or anything like that. I have never heard of the chlorine thing and I will try that fridge test to see if it works. If it does, I'd be willing to drink it.

Ravenladyj (15517) | 3 months ago | I think it has a very rusty, funky taste Exactly how I feel..its the pipes, the taps etc not the water itself..and like you I DO notice a HUGE difference and wont drink tap water unless I absolutely without a doubt have to..

coffeebreak (3025) | 3 months ago | If you have bad water pipes, that isn't the waters fault. When I moved to Texas we had our own water well, underground spring. It tasted terrible and it took a long time to get used to it. And it was fresh spring water. It is all in what you get used to. I know for a fact the fridge over night works. I buy a case of bottles (24) and put 6 in the fridge, and just refill them and put them in the fridge. Yes, it does make a difference. But again, I just started this about 2 years ago and only did it to have cold water so handy for my kids and to take along with me. PRior to that, it was tap and never a problem. I just got used to the cold version, that the faucet version does taste different. So that just means it is a difference between cold and warm...not the water

7. xParanoiax (3812) | 3 months ago | I've always thought bottled water was ridiculous. You can get it from a well, or tap for free. Most tap water ain't even good for you (it's why we had a well growing up). I NEED those minerals in the water, dangit...elsewise its hard for me to drink the water. They're basically charging you a ridiculous amount for your own water which you could probably filter yourself to get the same taste. It's the biggest scam ever, I think...and I've never bought it and I'm glad.

|
|
coffeebreak (3025) | 3 months ago | The thing is, it is regular tap/municipal water. Same that goes through your tap. THey just filter it another time or two. WHo knows, maybe what they filter out are the vitamins and things that might be the reason for the taste difference.
| |
|
|
xParanoiax (3812) | 3 months ago | It's why I don't drink city water. They usually use a whole bunch of chemicles and stuff to treat it...and I'm pretty sure their filters aren't partial to bad stuff in the water, they probably get rid of the good too. I get my water from a spring or well, that's the only water I'll drink. I agree though, most people're better off filtering their own water.

8. yparson (186) | 3 months ago | Most companies use filtered or purified water which in my opinion is still tap water all the same. I mostly drink spring water which has a sweet taste to it. Have you ever tried drinking the tap water in Los Angeles? Yuh.

9. bonbon664 (2183) | 3 months ago | I think bottled water is the biggest scam ever inflicted on people. You pay more for a bottle of water than you would for the same amount of gasoline. I admit, sometimes I do buy bottled spring water if I'm on the road, but, at home 100% tap water. Our water her has a good taste, and I've never had a problem with it.

10. Ravenladyj (15517) | 3 months ago | I found out this past summer that UNLESS its been stated somewhere on the bottle, most bottled water is just extra filtered tap water..HOWEVER I still think its better..NOT because the water is different, its the filth in the lines and taps themselves that make it taste disgusting..Realistically, how many ppl "flush" their pipes and taps...I live in a very old home and though our kitchen is more modern its still 20 yrs old...thats a lot of crap built up in those taps ya know...

drannhh (5517) | 3 months ago | Right, when our neighbor lady had an off-hours problem with her toilet, I went over to help her out and it was just a simple adjustment so I had her up and running in no time, but I noticed that she had never had an anti-siphon device put in, and when I mentioned it would be a good idea, she never heard of it. So much for city code and annual inspections and all that good stuff. At our other home the tap water smelled like sewage, so I had to put in some in-house filtration. I read all the clean water reports showing how wonderful our water was supposed to be, but when you can smell sewage, guess what, it is SEWAGE! And that is where tap water comes from, recycled sewage. But coffeebreak is right that we can't trust most of the bottled water either. So in my view reverse osmosis or some equally effective system is not a luxury but a necessity.
